Ok well the two problems I have are these:
When I pick to fast the strings vibrate onto the fretboard.. anyway to stop that?

And then Here's the main one:

At times in the lessons it will say this or something similar:

---
---
-7-
---
-5-
---

So, my question is: how do you pick just those two strings?

Without using hybrid picking you have to mute all the other strings with your index finger.

You mute the E string with the tip and the rest with a bar. It doesnt matter you're muting the G string as your fretting above your muting finger.

Might i just add that if you are picking slow enough to be able to cleanly play just the A, D and G strings then you only need to mute the D string. I would do this with my index finger.

Concerning your second problem:

This is called an octave shape. It consists of only one note and it's octave (eg B and the next B up from that)

You mute that middle string (the one in between the two fretted notes) by using your left hand's index finger to lay across it.

So you'll play the lower note with your index finger, the higer note with the ring or pinky, and mute the middle string with the index too- just laying it across slightly untill it touches the string enough to deaden the sound.

You could dampen the D string with the finger you fret the A string with. Sort of still strum it but kill all sound.
Or you could maybe pick it with your ring finger.

Do you mean that the strings rattle against the frets, right, not the fretboard huh?
Raise the action or add more "backwards bend" on the neck.

Hello mate, what do you mean by vibrating? I'm not sure if I got it properly, but maybe your strings are to close to fretboard?

Hey, Yeah especially the Low E string... like If I'm holding say

---
---
---
---
-7-
-7-

or switching and the like, as I play the chord, the strings fibrate onto the frets, but not on open or anything like that

Well im not sure what you're asking but if i didnt get the rioght idea the first time, then this might help.

If you have a guitar with a trem but you have no whammy bar in it then the strings might buzz sometimes especially if you pick them hard. Putting a whammy bar in sorts this.

I believe you are experiencing fret buzz, a little buzz is ok, but too much that it kills the note is a problem, you need to take the guitar to a tech to set it up, or you can do it yourself, but if you a new to guitar I wouldn't recommend it, what needs to be done is adjust the action by finding a perfect combination of neck relief and bridge height, so that you have nice playable action and no fret buzz

You have to mute the A string with some of the fingers from the left hand. Try to mute it from bellow with finger that you fret teh D string.

Also check out my muting tutorial for some advices.

Cheers mate smile.gif

Ok, I know old thread but I did figure out what that buzz was so I wanted to let you know (incase someone else who's beginner like me has the problem)...

It's my FINGER position:

lets say I hold

-
-
-
-
5
5

If the second string is at the joint of my finger, it buzzes, if its at the padded area, it doesn't smile.gif

Hope it helps SOMEONE at least biggrin.gif
