Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

hand movement might be a tad 'flamboyant' Im still working on being a bit more efficient :)

Hi mate,

yeah! this sounds good. There are some moments in which your hand sync is not perfect, and also some moments in which your timing could be tighter, but the overall sounds very good.

The thing that needs special attention is related to what you've commented over the video, which are things that we've also talked about at the mentoring program.

You need to slow down and try to make your hands movements much smaller. Both hands are not being economic regarding motion and this is essential to be able to play faster stuff, and even to make this one sound tight. Please also remember to avoid starting the motion from the fingers of your right hand.

Other than that, this is good, the biggest problem will happen with faster stuff.

Keep on the hard work!

Hi NecroScott (your new black metal name)

I like this, there's nothing that offends me here smile.gif Safe space, waaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaa

Seriously, though, although your fretting hand movement does seem quite large I do believe this is something that adapts and sorts itself as the tempo increases. In all my years of playing I don't ever remember actively focusing on controlling my left hand movements to make them efficient or anything.

I believe that using the speed burst method can usually sort out most things when it comes to translating a technique to higher tempos. If you ask your left hand to perform at a faster rate it will find a way to manage the task. The key is short bursts as perfect or close to the intended result as you can manage. Then pausing to recoup so you can go again. If your form does need a slight tweak then this is where you'll notice anything 'different' that the body does.

Same with picking. The same speed burst method can reveal certain tweaks you might need to make because your body will adopt a slight physical change if it needs to in order to achieve its task. Your picking looks fine here. At slower tempos, use of the finger/thumb method is fine. Although to be fair I'm not seeing much finger/thumb flexion here anyway so I don't see a problem. When we pick slower, we can always use more movement because we don't need to conserve as much energy.. and at slower tempos we're more concerned about tone, muting etc. It's like having a big Hummer covered in bling. It's great at slower speeds but if you wanna drag race you need something more aerodynamic. But both can be used smile.gif

Hey Scott!

That's a descent performance. No critical mistakes, well executed - clean and with nice timing. Nothing serious to complain.

Same as guys only thing that has taken my attention is your hand motion. I guess it's quite subjective for this particular tempo. I can only say what I would do personally. I would not involve right index finger and thumb motion to picking at this speed - I would stick to wrist only for more even sound. I would probably limit my left index finger motion since it's usually my "nosie gate". I simply see no profit in taking it away but if it helps your timing than you can do it - as long as no unwanted noises breaks through. Generally you did a good job over this lesson. Congratulations! smile.gif
