Bending With Vibrato

I'm having trouble doing this and i cant make it sound right when I do it. If it helps, I usually use three fingers for bending - two for pushing the string up and the other for muting the next string. Well the way I tend to do it is to bend up to note X, and then add vibrato by bending it up another quarter tone or so, and releasing it back down to note X repeatedly. The key to get nice sounding vibrato is to make sure your doing it in time with the music. You can either do it slow or fast, depending on the effect you want. A good way to improve vibrato is to practice it to a metronome! (like most things). You should practice doing vibrato in quavers, quaver triplets and semi quavers at various tempos. Hope that helps David Edit: I forgot to mention, I very often do vibrato with the whammy bar when I am hitting a bent note. Vibrato with the whammy bar has a very different sound and I find it gives an especially nice sound when used in combination with bending up to a note. Do as David says, and don;t expect it to sound right straight away, it took me a couple of months at least of fairly constant practice before I started to get it. Simple isn't it? Practice all your fingers to get more control. When you are practicing bending vibrato you are also practicing regular vibrato. I guess i need to practise adding vibrato once i've reached the note i'm bending the string to...i have a feeling i'm currently adding vibrato whilst still in the process of bending the string up . So lets say normally you'd bend up then apply a quick vibrato, instead, do a bend up, hold it, then add a very shallow and slow vibrato, when you can do that to perfection make it a bit quicker and wider. I learned the Tornado of Souls solo by Megadeth which has a lot of slow bends and vibrato and it just hit me and I and was able to almost replicate Marty Friedman's vibrato. You should try that solo, it has a lot of good techniques in it for practicing. In fact, alot of Megadeth songs are good for practicing, second solo in Hangar 18 is good for sweeps, 11th (final) solo is good for fast alternate picking. Another way to go about it would be to watch one of the instructors on this site, and study how they add vibrato to thier bends. I can't see how this couldn't help. And you are right, it isn't very easy when you try to bend and vibrato at the same time, but bending to a note and then adding vibrato once you reached your target pitch is much easier. What's the difference in a bend up toward you, or the low E versus pulling the string down toward the high E. My bends sound alot better when I pull toward the high E but I noticed that players do bend the other way most of the time. Am I practicing a bad technique? Before then, I would bend up to pitch and try to add vibrato like on Muris's Lukather lesson and I just couldn't keep my fingers up there while using vibrato and now all the sudden it just clicked and I can bend up and vibrato with any finger.
