Hi, I need to mix two of my songs before the 30th of april.
Thats kind of soon

Well I use reaper and Ez drummer. The first track is a kind of groovy track where I use guitarbackground, lead and ez drummer, nothing, more. What should be done here and could you explain a bit why and how?

Should you go for some synth program or what could be used there? I suposse I will use some drums but not to much backing guitar.
Well its not supposed to be a pro mix either I will probably redo these songs later but I need to do some mix for them.

For the mix with just guitars, drums, and leads, make sure you have some bass line in there supporting the guitars.

If you don't have a bass use ReaPitch and detune a clean, DI signal of your guitar down an octave and play what the bass would play.

Hi-Pass the guitars using ReaEQ, depending on your tone and guitar, probably around 80-120hz on average - this will leave room for the bass guitar.

I assume it is double tracked, so pan each guitar 100% left/ right respectively, letting the bass/ kick/ and snare occupy the middle.

Use ReaComp on the snare, there is a preset you could probably use called modern rock snare which will help fill out the snare in the mix

Use ReaComp again on the kick/ or any compressor of choice to bring out the punch in it.

Make sure you do all automation and velocity changes to kicks if there is sustained playing, like a continuous run of 16th notes. Even still, manually making small 3-5 point adjustments in the velocity across the track will really humanize it.

Make sure your mix, without the lead, is solid on its own, that it sounds as filled as it can get. Then, place the lead tracks in there, they may require heavier compression to bring them out more.

There are lots of free synths, a good one is called Mikro Prism from Native Instruments that is pretty high quality compared to other free synths.
