What Made You Join Gmc?

I found this Shadow of the Ninja video on YouTube. I was just floored from the whole ensemble really. It lead me to GMC and I had to join right away. I was a bit overwhelmed at first with the amount of awesome lessons and content. I still feel like I have just scratched the surface of what I'd like to accomplish here! I was totally impressed and wanted to play it so my plan was to sign up for a month and just learn that lesson LOL! As soon as I tried to learn it I had a bit of a reality check and realised how much I would need to improve to be able to play it. on the plus side, Im a lot closer to playing it now..... about a year and a half later one day I will have that lesson, oh yes, one day I still get overwhelmed with all the stuff I need to learn! I found my way here the same way pretty much after I saw Kristofer's alter ego in a video like this one. Craziness attracts more craziness After that I lurked in the forums, the wiki, and watched lots of videos where I saw great lessons, I also lurked in Todd's and Ramiro's video chats for about a year before I finally joined. Muris was probably the instructor that impressed me the most at first,I love that Oriental Shred lesson. After that I too discovered that Evening Blues lesson by Marcus that Greg posted above,and it became one of my favorites, probably in the top 3. So +1 on that Greg! It was slow but I saw Muris's videos and I absolutely loved it. I saw I missed his MTP lesson by a month. Joined in, waited and learned most of his lessons and finally joined his MTP class as well. Too bad, I couldn't hang around with him for long. One surprising thing was that after I discovered GMC, I saw it was Kris's idea. I had seen his lesson advertisement (Google Ad I think) few years ago. He had another site and I had bought his lesson. I think it was Sweet Child O Mine but I never really practiced it. I'm in the demographic called "Old Guys Who Sucked As Teenage Players Then Got A Life And Are Now Finally Getting Serious About Making Music Before We Die Because We Have The Time And Money". Might be a bit too much to put on a file folder if you're a GMC market researcher . Trust me, though, there are a lot of us. There are lots of guitar instruction sites on the Interwebz. There are a couple of things about GMC that make it different (i.e. better), and actually worth paying for. First, the lessons are organized into skill levels, and there are a wide range of levels. The transition from level N to N+1 isn't huge so it seems like progress can be smooth - more like a ramp than steep stair steps. I'm also impressed that the lessons seem to skew toward the higher skill levels. Mind you, this is "higher skill" from the perspective of someone who sucks. Level 2-3 stuff is about where I'm at so there's plenty of "headroom" left for me. Some sites max out at those levels. There's a good mix of songs vs. skill-building exercises here as well. Second, the ability to record & publish a take for feedback. That's novel and bridges the online vs. in-person learning problem. We'll see if I have the balls to do that LOL (the smart money says no). I realize that feedback is vital, though, so I'm gonna have to just get drunk and get over it! At first I was reluctant because of the charge, but then I figured that the resources were there 24/7, and I didn't have to go anywhere on a schedule and pay $35 for 30 minutes, plus here we have this great community of musicians all working together and encouraging each other. But honestly, while researching I ran across TheFireBall's video of his 3 year progression and that sealed the deal for me. I remember that after clicking on Fotolog advert with Kris video, I saw this site and the only instructor doing lessons here was Pavel. I discovered a section where the site said that they were looking for new instructors. I borrowed a photo camera , recorded a solo and sent it to Kris. It's been more than 6 years since that day.
