Chris Brooks Economy Picking Options

Anyone else here working through Chris's Economy picking book? Ive been a long time fan of his playing and recently purchased his latest book. Im finding that my natural playing leads toward economy picking with it being active 40% of the time. But, Isolating small sections and being very attentive to the right hand changing strings seems to be so helpful.

Just curious if anyone else here is working on the same picking motions and what kind of struggles or triumphs you may encounter during your practice?

I don't know this book, but one of the suggestions that I've seen, which I really like is that when you split it into chunks, make sure that you practice a bit of the next chunk so you don't realize that your fingering going into the next session is all wrong, or at least be aware of it before hand

Yes it seems like you need to really learn to utilize the motions naturally for them to be effective. You can learn the lick but if the motion behind it is not fluent then it won't matter when you are playing.

Econ picking is a great way to make life a little more simple for the picking hand in general. Whenever i'm moving up to a higher string, I typically use econ and use two down strokes in a row as it's the direction the hand is already moving. When I'm going from higher to lower strings I typically use alternate picking for the same reason.
