GMC Forum _ Ivan Milenkovic _ Changing Guitars Between Sets/songs

Posted by: timrobwall Jul 30 2011, 06:23 PM

Hi Ivan --what are your thoughts about this? I have always played a Strat, but recently started using a Les Paul in our gigs for songs that need that extra growl and bite. I love the tone difference, but I've been noticed that my playing slips at bit as a result-- the different scale length, rosewood v. maple fretboard -- these things seem to matter especially in the pressure of a gig and moving fast from one guitar to another. Maybe I just need to push through and get more comfortable with the Les Paul. I'm a 4-5 difficultly level guitarist, so I don't need extra complications. Any thoughts? Do you do this when you play? Tim

Yes, I changed guitars during gig, and yes, these guitars are totally different. What I've found helpful is to prepare on both of these guitars before the gig, and prepare well: while standing up, and moving just like I would do on stage. This helped me overcome this problem.

Don't worry, it will go away after a while! smile.gif
