Congrats on the amazing gear!

But the demo songs mastering has gone overboard with loudness I'd actually prefer to hear solo tones when listening gear if possible?

I always try to normalize to as close to 0dB as I can get without clipping, it always seems to me that professionally released metal tracks are just as loud.

I made sure that there was absolutely no clipping on any of the tracks or the master bus, so the audio you hear should sound just as it did performing it. I'll try to put together some less densely instrumented stuff for you soon though if you're interested!

Interesting, I downloaded the mp3 and visually too its very compressed. Could there be an auto mastering involved (which daw?)? or maybe the link was wrong?

I'm using Reaper, so there shouldn't be any auto stuff going on. The waveform dynamics were flat before normalizing and mastering, which should be because the performance is intentionally without much dynamic variation.

The usual method is a dynamic-to-semicompressed track on mix stage (aside drums), then doing the loudness thing on the mastering. Its left to the mastering stage so in an album concept all songs will have a fluid loudness feel when listening back to back, this would be very hard in amix stage. And also if needed to re-master in the future its handy to have a dynamic mix.

Rare but there are examples to your method, metallicas death magnetic was mixed in such a way. They left the compression job to the mastering but added lots of saturation on the mix stage to individual tracks so the master would end-up very loud.

Oh and yeah I'm also interested in the pickups character on low-to-mid gain performance with that guitar Kris also got Bkp pickups very recently but I can't remember the model (do remember they were a low-output model)

Killer axe with killer pickups to be sure. That is one of their best sets IMIHO. So versatile. From jazz to death metal. Well played! I would put the solos up a bit more in the mix like mertay saiid, otherwise it makes the guitars sound small compared to the drums. It almost sounds like a drummer did the final mix/master?

Getting the drums to be extra clear in the mix is always a challenge to me, sometimes I can overcompensate with volume when it really just needed more attention to EQ. I used some new techniques to improve track definition in the mix, I must not have dialed down the volume enough before mastering. I'll take it down a notch before I make the video

Are you sending your drums to their own bus? Please tell me each drum has it's own track and they are all bussed to a single drum bus? That way you can shape the entire eq curve of the drums and use compression on them to keep them from dominating the mix If you are already doing this, my bad.

I'm using addictive drums, which essentially has the same options you described within the VST prior to track freezing, don't worry!

You are such a killer player, I"d say put the lead dead center in the mix and 5db above the rest of the mix. Buss the entire rest of the mix to one fader and pull it down the till the lead is just singing.
