He isn't alone. A lot of people have problems with 360's. The 3 Red Lights of Death occur far too frequently also.

Posted by: Soul_Decision Feb 29 2008, 10:46 PM

That sucks to hear :/ I have an Xbox 360 and it has been working fine for me. It will scratch the disc if you don't put it in right.

I am not JUST UNLUCKY. microsoft makes CRAP products and then dont back them worth sh#$. the xbox 360 failure rate is ONE IN EVERY 6 CONSOLES. thats not just unlucky.

Calm down man. A lot of people aren't happy with Microsoft or 360 failure rates. I know at least 4 or 5 of my friends that have had XBox 360s die on them. They are useless at helping out as well.

Don't change your dreams just because of a useless company. Everybody knows Microsoft are useless but you need to phone them up and say you're just not happy or take it to a shop to fix. Maybe there is very little wrong.

I have never bought an X Box as they are so breakable. Playstations don't break that easy. Not even PC's break that easy.

I feel for you man as I know how hard it is with lack of money and you expect a product that will last.

Normally it happens quickly mate. If you get one that works for a long while you're usually ok. They tend to break fast if they are bad ones.

the last time i called, the first person was a mexican who couldent speak english, then i got transeferred to a woman who was VERY rude, it got worse from there. needless to say, 7 consoles failing is not exactly motivation to call these people back, but thanks for your kind words, they mean alot. biggrin.gif

the thing is, they never tell you whats wrong. they take your broken console, and send a broken console someone else sent in, back to you. its terrible, exploitive business practices, but no one can stop them, because they stonewall everybody. even the u.s government is scared of microsoft, but their useless too, so it doesnt matter.

Yeah it's incredibly annoying. My phone stopped working but I had insurance so I sent it back and I got a phone back that was clearly one that had been sent back to them that they had fixed and it stopped working instantly so I phoned and said I'm far from happy that I've been sent a reconditioned phone and can you please send me a new phone as I've been with you for all the time I've had a phone on contract and they sent me a new one next smile.gif I'm not saying who the company is as I am quite happy with them on the whole.

the reason im so mad is because ive been kicked around all my life by people who think their better than me, and this is just an extension of that. be it people ive trusted betraying me, kids at school kicking the crap out of me, or microsoft stonewalling me, it makes me feel hopeless. dry.gif

Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Mar 1 2008, 12:51 AM

You shouldn't feel hopeless man. Everybody has good and bad times in life. Everything seems to go wrong at the same time and I know that all too well. Not everything is against you however much you feel it is. I hope you sort out this problem and have a bit better luck from now from big companies.

Posted by: Jamesito Mar 1 2008, 01:26 AM

I don´t know why but this seems to be a bigger problem in the U.S... I bought my xbox 360 and currently use it on a power converter here in Ecuador, 240v - 110v. Has worked fine for 2 years almost, although the cd drive gets constantly stuck, that is very anoying... but they charge about $150 to fix it so i decided to put up with it and use the money to buy some guitar pickups biggrin.gif.

Good console all round though, i would never buy a PS3, achievments make games worth playing if ur a hugh nerd!!!! lol i dont take it that seriously but some people do... I´m rubbish a t guitar hero though... it´s funny i can do the game all the way up to expert but when i get good on that stupi mini guitar, my playing on the real thing goes to .... for a few hours lol, that´s the price you pay i guess!!!!!

Although agree with the first comment poor customer service, they should really test the consoles properly before shipping them out...

Mine is 2 years old and its never had a single problem, this really sucks man. sad.gif

Posted by: Goliath Mar 1 2008, 02:57 PM

Where did you keep your Xbox? These things are primadonnas that need lots and lots of space and air circulation. I keep mine free standing next to my TV, it's been fine (knock on wood), my roommate keeps his on top of his TV horizontally. His has got the RRD, mine has not. He was able to get them to replace his. I bought mine when Gears came out.

Posted by: Jamesito Mar 1 2008, 03:05 PM

Well for a starters never put it vertically, it overheats because it sits on it´s own fans, bad design falt really, they are some good fan stands available but I have never liked it´s vertical position it scratches disks too easily. I bought a external fan unit for mine that clips on the back, definatly worth it as it reduces the systems heat a lot. Another good piece of advice is to be carfuil where you but that brick of a powerpack, it overheats mentally, I have mine in a cold cuboard, always nice and cool!!! It elimated any crashes on my games which is good as the regular console crashed quite a lot!!!!

So i would have it laid flat in a open area, buy a external clip on fan for it. This could resolve issues further down the line, as people have been reporting that they melt down after a few years... keep it cool!!

I've never liked microsoft, they suck... Windows doesn't work, error here, error there, constantly... And Xbox sucks, I've never liked it, with it's big hamburger like controllers, and with the fact that it's made my Microsoft. I don't know what's the big fuzz about them, they don't deliver the promises that they make conserning quality or anything else for that matter... but that's just my opinion, please don't hate me now smile.gif

its got an intercooler fan, and about 5-6 feet of free space around it. im convinced that all these consoles are poorly made.
Edit: it sits on its side. putting it upright is stupid.

If it's 1 in every 6 consoles and you had 7 break down on you I'd say you're either the most unlucky person on earth or you're not handling the consoles right.
Maybe you keep them in warm sunlight, with too little air for cooling, outdoors in the rain, whatever.

Posted by: shellshock1911 Mar 1 2008, 03:53 PM

I keep mine completely closed in except for one side, and sunlight is always shining on the side that is showing and it is fine. I have no idea how it is still working after reading all this lol.

the reason they keep breaking is because micro$oft keeps sending me other broken console's. thats their "refurbishing policy", i send mine in and i get someone else's broken console that they "repaired". yeah right.

No, they don't just pass broken concoles further to another customer. What do you base that upon? I base my assumption on common sence and the fact that a huge company couldn't take the risk of jeapordise their entire name on such a siilly thing.
I had my 360 break, had a fast contact with their support, they had prolonged my warranty, UPS came to pick it up and exactly 2 weeks later UPS dropped off a brand new 360 at my doorstep.
I'm both surpised how easy it went. I agree with you that it shouldn't break like that and I've seen figures for their budget for repairs so obviously they have a problem. Good thing is that they do their best to help all 360 owers, I'm not so sure that's very common unless it's obliged by law or security risks as it happens with cars from time to time that the manufacturers have to take responsibility for reparing at no cost. Still the car owner has to drive to the repair shop... UPS won't pick it up.

I'm just a little sick and tired from all the MS bashing mellow.gif There are alternatives but usualy the bashers stick to Windows for some reason. A shame since perhaps the competition would look different if people did.

EDIT: And btw there are consumer laws that would support you in that case. Here, if a product breaks from the same problem three times your allowed a full refund. Look up what possibilities you've got!

that's what a micro$oft Rep told me. and no, im not stupid enough to put my console out in the rain. i know how to take care of my stuff, and microsoft DESERVES to be bashed, they take your money then screw you over. ive looked at my options, but this is america, land of the corporation, and so far a refund is not an option.

wasting lots of money on failure items isn't great and I'm sorry to hear all this,
but on the other hand playing games isn't that productive as well.
Of course we all neen time to relax but there are many better ways for doing that imho.

Maybe the reason you got bad service and MickeM got good is because you are in America and he is in Sweden so this might be a little different. I don't know though, just a thought.

But if you know of this, why buy their products in the first place.

"Out in the rain" was just to cover everything that possibily could be from user errors, not litteraly saying you kept it out in th erain.

At a work place there will always be bitter people, a MS rep telling you something like that is probably generally unhappy about his entire situation. I've seen lots of people like that and he or she wouldn't be the first person I'd trust on his view on the company.

and many M$ reps told me their "refurb policy", if your a huge american corporation, theres no repercussions for doing something like that.

First you said ONE MS representative told you that, now you say MANY did. When you said "MS rep" I though yo uhad spoken to "repairs", but MS representatives could be anyone who sell MS products. As I said, MS bashers are everywhere and they tend to gang up and aways be in agreement. Since you're bitter wirth MS someone will surely be glad to share their bad MS stories with you.

Earlier you said they sent you a broken console and you implied that they just pass them on unrepaired and you had gotten 6 of those. Of course not true at all.

I rather think you're behaving quite badly. You managed to frighten Walliman off from buying a XBOX360 all because you're upset and feel mistreated by Microsoft and the discussion or you statemnts rather don't come off as representative for all Xbox360 owners but when you put it as you do you will automatically take up a lot of space - and as a bitter MS basher try to gather others to support your case.
I am sorry you got this problem but everyone have to realize 7 broken concoles is extreme. With a case like thta you have to accept one has to dig deeper to find the reason. Is everything MS fault or could the user have done something wrong.

If a driver has his car break down 7 times in 2-3 years time it's not strange that the manufacturer would start to question the driver. While the driver would of course bash the manufacturer so hard though he never changed oil and tinkled in the fuel refill.

I think you would proove you case better if you calmed down, wrote in a sensible way and took it a little bit easy. I've seen you express yourself a lot better than this.
Right now I don't belive you're talked with many MS representatives that told you they send you broken unrepaied boxes, I don't belive it broke down 7 times and suddenly you're out in the cold while 6 times you managed to pull through. I don't belive it's all MS fault.

Thats fine. frankly, i REALLY dont care at all what your opinion is. i really dont care if you believe me. i have spoken to repairs, and i really dont need this from you. i dont have the time or the patience to counter all the points made in your articale, perhaps when your 360 brakes, i can blame it on you hmm? i see no reason for you to be acting this way, you clearly dont understand what im saying.

I dunno though, I think Games can be creative too, especially games that challenge your logic and thinking. Im not saying that guitar hero will help you play the guitar, of course it dosen´t infact i believe it makes it worse but some games can be productive I believe but most of all, it´s the enjoyment of playing the game in order to rest the mind and relax thats also important if you are a work-a-holic!!!

i was calm, until mickem started saying that this is all my fault, which i really don't appreciated. games are my life, and i am going to study to be a game designer. however, big corporations like microsoft make life hard for everyone, especially in america. if i were to just not use there products, there would be many things a could not do, its called a monopoly. they have a stranglehold on the electronics industry here, and most everybody uses their products.im not trying to "draw supporters" or dissuade anyone from purchasing this product, i am simply stating my experiences. i have talked to customer support, i have talked to the repair shop, and they have all told me that they refurbish consoles sent in from other customers. i know how to take care of my belongings, its insulting anyone would think otherwise. i would recommend reading up on this problem, before purchasing an xbox 360. i am not trying to sway anyones view, i am simply presenting the facts as they pertain to me.

good day.

That makes you a lier! I will gladly discuss with you but don't misinterpret what I'm saying and then pass this further as me being the big bad bully. I never said it's your fault, i said one possibility could be error in handling of the device. Was that so bad, can't you handle that?

As you interpret things, now I have less belief in that you even understood the MS rep persons but you rather choose to understand things as you please instead of understanding them as they were meant.

Thats fine. frankly, i REALLY dont care at all what your opinion is. i really dont care if you believe me. i have spoken to repairs, and i really dont need this from you. i dont have the time or the patience to counter all the points made in your articale, perhaps when your 360 brakes, i can blame it on you hmm? i see no reason for you to be acting this way, you clearly dont understand what im saying.

Were you only looking for other MS bashers and accepting no arguments against your stand point?

You came out very agressive and you've kept that position. I had a positive helpful MS support help me with my Xbox360, I argumented my case as opposite yours. No reason for you to whine about that too.

Maybe it's trying to tell you something...dunno,
wasting lots of money on failure items isn't great and I'm sorry to hear all this,
but on the other hand playing games isn't that productive as well.
Of course we all neen time to relax but there are many better ways for doing that imho.
I'd give it a break and try something else. smile.gif

my goodness, three times we agree, I am getting scared now.

I have as much desire to play a video game as to sniff my dog's ....

How about drumming up the kids in the neighborhood and getting up a game of basketball or something like that instead? Or taking your dog out on a hiking trail. Which is where I am going right now on this first nice day of spring. Put on my mp3 player and practice my spanish lessons, and let the dog have a hoot sniffing all around, much better than a video game in my book.

We have a great huge dog park in my town, miles of trails and a creek, people walk wit their dogs and talk, great time. Very social. Bet there are 50 dogs out there today.

- micro$oft keeps sending me other broken console's. thats their "refurbishing policy"
And finally, you last quote from you, supposedly a no MS basher
- microsoft DESERVES to be bashed

QUOTE (Guitarman700 @ Mar 1 2008, 10:28 PM) *

do not say i dont know how to handle my belongings

Why not? You put me in a seat where you say that I said it's your fault. I never did. I presented an option of Xbox360 failure would be wrong handling of the item. You twisted that into "mickem said it's my fault. If it's not a lie it's a misinterpretion but that can't be the case. You said yourself that the only one misinterpreting is me. So it must be a lie then. dry.gif

As as option of why a console could break. Don't take everything so personal. Whether you do know or don't know how to handle your belongings only you would know. At least until they break and you realize you handled them in the wrong way all along. wink.gif That was a joke.

I thought you came out agressive towards MS and judging from my own experiences I argued your point. I can't just agree with you just because you want to be cuddled with. If you had been less aggressive in the first place just looking for commiseration I wouldn't have made an argument, but the way you put things almost called for one.

QUOTE (Guitarman700 @ Mar 1 2008, 10:28 PM) *

As I said before, many times now I belive, I've had a broken Xbox360, I've been speaking from own experience. I am aware of the problem and the hughe budget MS put in place for support. If you want to change MS way of handling the support you may well cause your 360 to be gone for 5-6 weeks before you get your very own console in return.
And I've learned here from you saying that 1 out of 6 consoles will fail. And that yours broke 7 times. You do the math. Extremly unluck or faulty handling. And don't just read the second part of that sentence now.

Agreed, video games are just a meaningless distraction from real life.

I think if they really are "your life" then its time for some serious re-evaluation, they're not creative, they're not greatly social and they definately should not take priority over both of the aforementioned.

Very true. I find them relaxing, whenever I play it's because I wan't to "flee" for an hour. There's always better things to do but for a break, for fun and to get to do these things impossible in real life - slaughtering thousands of aliens with different weapons. Oh so great! laugh.gif

i disagree. they're art, just like books or movies. people work long hours to make them, and many have creative and appealing stories. they give friends something to talk about and a way to spend time together. i want to be a game designer when i finish college, thats what i want to do with my life. im sorry if anyone thinks thats a waste of time, but its my goal in life.

Come on guys,

at the end of the day everyone has their opinion and whether or not it´s a waste of time playing video games is relative, you could say the same about playing guitar... top games players can make a living just like a good guitar player. A waste of time would be doing nothing like watching TV constantly, games have some benefits i guess hand eye coordination, logic those kind of things... everything is ok in proportion... like owen says, it is a distraction from real life but sometimes that is what we games players want!!!! lol

Yes! You should all be learning foreign languages. Not only are they fun, if you can speak a couple languages, you are guaranteed to be making big money. My dad's friend only speaks English and Chinese and he works for Charbroil and had to go to China for 2 months on a business trip. He makes huge money and all he does is translate. If you can speak English, Spanish, Chinese, French, Russian, Arabic. Businesses DIE for you.

I remember back in the days of playing Xbox (original).

First thing i had to deal with was the fact that a week after release in the UK- they lowered the price by £100.

We phoned support and were sent a variety of Xbox goodies that definitely broke the £100 mark....not so bad there.

A while later the hard disk failed- we sent it away, they returned a new one. Job done.

I've not had many problems with games, but then again gaming is not a passion of mine so i dont pursue it.

My little brother plays WOW for almost 10 hours a day and is suffering health and social problems because of it.

In my eyes gaming time is time better spent- but ofcourse everybody has diferent opinions and if everybody thought the same as me then there wouldnt be any consoles would there?

One thing i do love reading is "corporation" talk....

theres a scene in the movie "Team America"...

"And the corporations just sit there, in their....uh...corporation buildings, doing um.....corporationy stuff, and they make loads of money and thats bad!"

Corporations start with one person.

i think playing games is not the same thing as with the guitar. When you're playing games u usually get hooked by this meaningless task of saving the queen or to kill the haunted beast in the woods. And the worst thing with games is that its so hard to find a balance - people think it more like a lifestyle than a hobby. Take World of Warcraft for example, when i look back at old times when i was a "gamer" i didn't realised how useless it was. Is it so glorious to lvl a cartoon character to 70 and get the mighty gear? What happens afterwards?
When it comes to guitar i think the biggest task there is to find yourself. To be happy and to succed in life. Something i think is hard to do with games. Sadly i dont think games is a piece of art cuz it doesnt free your mind - it does nearly the opposite. What is the great thing with the guitar is that even those who had the worst child hood can relate this to guitar and give the music its soul. And people will respect you for that - which others wouldnt if you just sat on a chair playing a stupid videogame 24/7.

But that is only my opinion - good luck

My little brother plays WOW for almost 10 hours a day and is suffering health and social problems because of it.

Yah, my little brother played games for that lengh of time each day, so with the support of my parents I wiped his hard-drive and installed Ubuntu linux, clamped it down so that he cant even install mini games or play games on the web - even playing them becomes a compulsion for him, so far he's tried to get past the system I've set twice just to install something sneakily but I've just made it impossible for him to change his system at all now. He totally hates me for it but he'll thank me in the long run. It's completely nuts when you find yourself sat at a screen for 10-12 hours a day, complete waste of a life.

While agree people do waste there lives at times, I strongly disagree video games are life wasters. Video Games are an art, People spend years drawing storyboards, designing characters, composing music, writing a story, Finding the right people to do voice acting, And it all turns out to be a masterful piece of art with amazing stories and well though out plots, Games are not simple "games" anymore.

exactly. after i played morrowind, i decided i wanted to make games just like that, huge, fun, with an amazing story.
other games with amazing stories i like are; the halo series, half life, oblivion, mass effect, gears of war etc. the list goes on.
video games are in the same class as books or movies, they are just interactive. i want to make the games i love, and if anyone thinks THATS a waste of time, perhaps you've forgotten what dreams are all about.

Well there is a world of difference between making games and playing games for sure. Makeing videos games is highly skilled, creative work smile.gif The main backbone of makeing games is of course programming skills amoungst others.

If you really want to follow your dream grab yourself a C++ book and start learning to programme! wink.gif

I wanted to make video games too so I started college as a computer science major and I quickly learned that i would much rather just play games rather than make them. The work load is obscene and I couldn't handle the amount of time in front of the screen. They have borderline unreasonable expectations for workloads. To put it in persepective, I maybe put in 12 hours a week outside of the classroom on my other 15 hours, but my computer science classes always had 20+ hours of work each week, and having a knack for it doesn't necessarily speed it up, it's just gruntwork coding in a lot of cases. I don't want to discourage you, just realize it takes LOTS of hard work to get there. I ended up learning C, C++, Java, Pascal, and Scheme before I realized that it wasn't for me. Hopefully your resolve is stronger than mine was.

im not talking about coding and programing im talking about creative design. i have so many stories and creative ideas in my head, and my favorite games are the ones with a great story, so i want to write the stories and create the worlds and characters.

Man i would love to do that smile.gif

kind of. for example, bethesda, who make the elder scrolls series, have people called loremasters, who create characters, locations and story elements, and make sure they fit the elder scrolls lore and story. something like that would be awesome.
