Hi GMC'ers!

I've decided I'm going to have some guitar lessons to help me improve my technique and help me on my journey to face melting awesomeness! The questions is....... how many lessons does one normally have? i was thinking maybe 1-2 a month.

Thoughts?

Lessons IRL or here at GMC ??? If IRL, weekly basis is fine, otherwise it may take too long between the assignments and it's harder to practice harder assignments over a longer period in time imo. If You mean here at GMC, I will suggest to have a couple of one's going on simoultanesly, one very hard and some that is just above Your current level.... The reason for practicing things far beyond Your level is that timing and technique gets forced and You will play "ordinary" stuff better. This is at least what I think.

Thanks guys, good advise!

I have booked an hour lesson on sunday. I'm hopeing with the help of this guys i can see where i am (in the eyes of a pro) and come up with a solid plan of how i can reach my goal of "High voltage face melter"

I'll keep you all posted on any improvements

Live lessons are always useful, but since you are member of GMC I think you should make full commitment and that should help you improove much faster then weekly lessons imo. That means getting into MTP, doing collabs, working hard on lessons and having a lesson plan, asking questions in the forum and posting videos of your playing, visiting chat and asking questions etc. As technology developed, you can practictly do the same thing online as in person and sometimes more.

Regarding live lessons 2-4 lessons a month are enough.

Next phase is starting out in March, which means the applications for it will be in February. I will do the MTP program, so you can apply if you want. Cheers

Hi All,

So I had my first lesson on Sunday and I must say that it was very beneficial! Just having someone there to play with and learn from was excellent! We talked about some theory and then started playing barre chords to a metronome (i struggle with barre chords). After practicing for a while I'm totally starting to get it! I'm also starting to understand root notes and how to make the chords minor and dominant out of the barre chords.

I'll be having another lesson this coming Sunday for another hour.... this could become an expensive habit - but totally worth it!

Zilla private lessons are definitely worth and useful. It depends what kind of instructor you have also but in general instructor can correct and point out things to you live straight away so you get immediate feedback. On the other hand you can do many more things on GMC starting from collaborations, MTP program, attending video chat sessions and asking questions, to joining virtual bends, submitting your lessons for REC program and writing articles for WIki. It would be nice if you combine best of both worlds and get the most out of both things offered.
