Hey guys, i love music, i love melody, but i also love some good lyrics on a song, i don't like the rock n roll macho type songs too much, or the romantic predictable ballad from bon jovi, ok, i gotta admit i love "i'll be there for you", but that's a whole different story, because mr richie sambora made an incredible job on that one.
So my question is, because i wanna listen to more, who are your favorite lyric song writers?
i can share some of my own and i hope you google up the lyrics to see more
All of these are genius in my opinion, in no particular order.
Alex Turner - The Arctic Monkeys
Bob Dylan anyone?
Jim Morrison - The Doors
i would love to see new ones
I've never really been a lyrics guy (I know, I'll be burned at the stake for this) probably because the first thing that always grabbed my attention was the music, guitar sounds and atmosphere.
But I do appreciate good lyrics. I always loved the lyrics from Ozzy Osbourne's album 'The Ultimate Sin' but I was dissapopinted to learn years later that a lot of Ozzy's lyrics were written by other people, namely Bob Daisley, his bassist.
Dave Mustaine can, and has, written some excellent lyrics which have improved over the years... the best are probably from the 'Countdown to Extinction' up to the 'Risk' albums.
man, Jim Morrison is so good. So authentic.
I'm not a lyrics guy either. I used to like Sepultura lyrics
There are a lot of songwriters that I like. Every music genre has awesome songwriters. I could say that Dave Grohl is one of my favourite songwriters nowadays...
David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Jim Morrison, Dave Mustaine, Bernie Taupin, Phil Anselmo.....I could go on and on.
Either this man or Jim Morrison. BTW.. listen to the little jam Carl Perkins has going on in the background
Cheers!
Gary
For Lyrics Johnny Cash has some really good ones...I like Todd Agnew also.
Iron Maiden told great stories in their albums and I liked how they weave each song together.
when it comes to lyrics i really enjoy mr.Mustaine and mr.Petrucci
With all due respect, but nowadays good songwriters don't exists ! Jim Morrison,Dylan,Simon and Garfunkel,Janis Joplin,Robert Plant,John Lennon,Pete Townsend...These were writers with a message!
Not sure, it depends on the person, I always like those mystical lyrics that you can find with Hendrix, Morrison, Zep, and other bands. You just dunno what they were talking about (who knows if they knew as well back in those days ), but it sounds right.
I love all these musicians, i gotta listen more to the foo fighters tho..
I agree. There are some exceptions. At least as far as the 90's. I don't know about now, it is pretty dry now. There are exceptions. This is nice.
Of course there are exceptions! But at that time, whatever you choose - you couldn't get wrong! Nowadays -it's a surprise when you run into a good text!
There are many but just to add couple more great song writers:
Holland-Dozier-Holland. They wrote many of the 60s and 70s Motown hits.
Irving Berlin - He wrote White Christmas, Say It Isn't So, and so on.
Ira Gershwin - The Man that I Love, Someone to watch over me...
Leiber and Stoller - Jailhouse Rock, Kid Creole, Pearl's a Singer...
Michael McDonald - What a Fool Believes, Minute by Minute...
Mancini and Mercer - Moon River
Rogers and Hammerstein - Carousel, The Sound of Music
Elvis Costello
Bacharach and David
Nick Cave...
