In the end it was cheaper - partly as we didn't have to pay an extortionate amount for delivery - and meets our needs better as it is designed specifically for our room and equipment. So that cut the price in half and I know the quality of the wood is much better than the particle board (held together by laminate) I ordered. My only obstacle is how to cut the hole cleanly. But like you said, this will be perfect for the space available, which for me is very limited. Yes there are a lot of desks made from mdf/particle board and often the quality of them is a bit questionable. Some of them seem to be little different to a computer desk. This way not only have you got the desk for less money but it will be better quality

'studio' desks are WAAAAYYYY overpriced. It is ridiculous. The studio I've been working with (Emissary Studios) has some really crafty guys and they also build their desk (and build out a lot of the studio in general. Seems the better way to go, and you get exactly what you want.

Yes they're not cheap at all. I think sterling's entry level desks start around $1500 and for something similar in design and size to mine it would be in excess of $6000.
