Back when Dream Theater were at their best, in my opinion smile.gif Would love to have a similar sound to Petrucci in this era:

This is also my favorite era and John's tone. I remember that I've caught in love with their music with this live concert, or maybe another one but from the same year...

Great vid, thanks for sharing.

Posted by: Caelumamittendum Dec 12 2016, 08:15 PM

They were great back then, and very inspirational!

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Dec 14 2016, 02:22 PM

It's curious but this also happens to me with some other players for example with Malmsteen. I love his playing and tone in the 80's and early 90's but I haven't enjoyed his playing the last 15/20 years. His tone changed, and his playing too in a similar way to John's.

Posted by: Phil66 Jan 4 2017, 09:15 PM

For me, this video is very inspiring, I've posted it in the chill out zone too but thought it would be good kept in here.
The playing, obviously, is inspiring but the guys comments like "Who crafted him", and "I think I've just seen a god, you are the god sir" are inspiring too for some reason. His face at 8:30 displays total awe. This is the first time he has seen Mr Vai.

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Jan 6 2017, 01:04 AM

That's so inspiring! Now I want to see that show complete! Vai is pure magic.

Thanks for sharing Phil.

Posted by: Phil66 Jan 9 2017, 04:03 PM

Yeah, Mr Vai is inspiring in his playing with the orchestra but the bloke's comments are another dimension of inspiration don't you think?
"Who crafted him?" smile.gif

This is another stunning piece of playing. The guitar is just a part of his soul on this one. Especially good from 1:30, his control is phenomenal!

Just the solo:

Wouuuu! That's a fantastic solo over my favorite Beatles song ever! That was very inspiring Phil. Thanks a lot for sharing! smile.gif

I never knew Prince was such an amazing guitarist, he slipped under my radar rolleyes.gif it was only couple of years ago when Rob Balducci (check him out, a certain Mr Vai signed him) told me Prince was his favourite guitarist. I was urprised as I never had him down as a guitarist. I knew he could play a bit but I didn't know he was a virtuoso.

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Feb 2 2017, 07:49 PM

yeah, he definitely was a very talented artist. I don't know all his stuff, I wonder if he has some more guitar oriented albums.

Not to do with music but everything to do with perseverance!

I've watched the edited video (first one) many times over the years, when I get to the 8 minute point my eyes are leaking, every time, without fail. It's well worth watching the full version if you get time.

Coming soon, video of a Queen tribute duo. Ok the guitarist isn't Brian May but it still inspired to pick up my guitar and try harder. I'll post when I get back. He nailed May's tone as best he could with a Vox practise amp mic'd up and a hotel sound system.

OK, these two videos aren't inspiring for their playing skills, they aren't virtuosos but I'd be extremely happy to be as good as them.

These are an inspiration because of the happiness music gives. They are enjoying playing and the people, as you will see are enjoying watching.

This, for me, is what music is all about. It was our last night on holiday, we heard them as we were walking back to the hotel, we made a detour following our ears and had some fun cool.gif

They are having a GREAT time. They are having fun and it's spread to their audience. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Phil66 Oct 11 2017, 08:17 PM

Yeah, this was just set up in a walkway of the pedestrian area, not in a bar, just basically in the street. My wife was loving it and wanted me to give them 50 Euros lol. I gave them 10 Euros.

In a REC, what would you give them? I only ask out of interest. The guitarist was really enjoying One Way Or Another wasn't he? smile.gif cool.gif

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Oct 12 2017, 11:36 PM

At REC? mm tricky, I think that this would be around 6/7, it's not bad, but there is room to polish rhythm, and those bends. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Phil66 Aug 5 2018, 03:19 PM

Wow, a 6 or 7? That makes me feel much better, seriously it does because I thought they were great and the audience were loving it.

Another inspiring video, not about music but about determination, this can TOTALLY be applied to learning guitar I think. Keep at it wink.gif

I haven't got one today mate, but that is awesome playing from Satriani blink.gif

Posted by: Phil66 Aug 29 2018, 08:44 PM

One word, SUBLIME!

I've always liked him, but the more I listen and try to play similar things the more respect and appreciation I have of this man. He made it look so so easy, I'm starting to put him above Satriani and Vai and even Govan, I don't mean for technical ability or shred, he just had so much soul in his fingers and in his heart, oh, his guitar is awesome too, it looks a little bit used wink.gif cool.gif cool.gif cool.gif

My new favorite french guitarist : Pascal Vigné

I took 2 hours of lesson with him, in his studio, it was awesome !
He played in front of me the song that starts at 8:43.
These bends go straight to my heart, just like his vibrato.

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Sep 27 2018, 02:58 PM

Hi mate!! Great to see you posting here. Congrats on that amazing experience!!

I'm not checking that song that he played. I like his melodic style, nice phrasing and feeling. I can notice Satriani's vibes on him. Very cool!

Thanks for sharing!!
