P.S. This is an emulated tone, no Amps were harmed.

Old school Pantera with extra reverb? So... Metal?

Posted by: The Uncreator Mar 13 2012, 12:03 AM

Pantera-ish I agree. Has a lot of characteristics of Thrash Metal.

OR....

Bluegrass

A very good emulated metal tone that's what it is ! laugh.gif
I'd say death/thrash tone from what I hear.

Posted by: audiopaal Mar 13 2012, 12:44 AM

I'd say Trash smile.gif

Oddly enough, good hear! The structure of the first lick is actually inspired by bluegrass. The alternate picking leading pinch bend is structurally similar to alternate picking or finger picking leading to a slide as done on accoustic and or dobro.

Bluegrass is Metal without distortion, or at least thats an old joke between me and some friends though laugh.gif

This tone could easily be "Djent", I am firm believer that the "Djent" sound is 75% in your picking hand, and the rest miscellaneous items. "Djent" is all attack, and precision timing, the tone just happens to have famous equipment for it. Of course, that equipment is also associated with pretty much any form of high gain music.

I can only speak for what I think but Todd, I think that is incredible! Besides the great playing, how did you get that sound? It sounds very, very expensive (i.e. nothing I'm going to get out of my ME-25). smile.gif

**Very well said! There are actually many elements of Metal and Metal Lead playing in Bluegrass. Not everyone is aware of it. If you listen to bluegrass, some of it is quite aggressive and the lead playing can be amazingly fast/shreddy even without distortion.

As for the tone, yup. That would apply as well. It almost seems like a Hybrid tone between Death/Thrash/Djent, having elements of all of them due to high gain and technique employed. I"m a bit of a Mutt when it comes to borrowing bits of things from various places/styles/techniques so it makes sense smile.gif

Thanks smile.gif It's a very simple setup. just a cheap guitar (20 year old Ibanez Rg560 with crap, stock pickups) and a plugin (Guitar Rig 5). I'm using my old cheap/crap GNX 3 (discontinued) as a preamp but the patch sounds pretty much the same with or without it. So yeah, it's just a spiff custom patch smile.gif I'll post it in my GUITAR RIG 5 THREAD!

You can download the Guitar Rg 5 Demo for FREE! Here is a link, it comes with a FREE version and a FREE Demo of the PRO VERSION.

I'm NOT endorsed by them but I think they should give me free stuff as much as I am always screaming how spiff they are!

Good question smile.gif here is the WIKI entry.

Bluegrass music is a form of American roots music, and a sub-genre of country music. It has mixed roots in Scottish, Irish and English[1] traditional music. Bluegrass was inspired by the music of Appalachia[2], and was influenced by the music of African-Americans[3] through incorporation of jazz elements.

----

It's essentially folks music from rural areas in America. Sort of like country/jazz/folk music. smile.gif I was raised in Kentucky so I grew up around Bluegrass music. Some of it is crazy fast and requires serous chops to pull it off. Here's an example.

It actually gets it's name "BLUEGRASS" from Kentucky BlueGrass which just tall grass that grows in the hills of Kentucky that looks blue at the tips in when in season smile.gif
