I've lost all the information in my PC. This evening my computer was down and I try to repair it but it was imposible, the unique solution was format.
I supose that when I install a new program about spyware the error happeed, 'cos when I try to restart my computer it was imposible... well, I try all ways but there was no luck for me sad.gif

well, I have my guitarpro songs safe in the other computer (portable) an my next lessons but I missed all the multitracks from my second album except 2 songs, so I think I will use the mix that I did last year and remaster it. I cannot change anything in the mix but the other solution is record ALL again, and I'm not motivate for this. So I will upload this album FOR FREE soon.

well, tomorrow will be another day unsure.gif

That's awful news sad.gif But next time don't format so hastily as you can usually fix or at least get the info off the drive before formatting. I'm sorry you lost all that info sad.gif But you should record all again and make it even better smile.gif

There is still a way to recover your files after a format, there is a program tool for recovering your files, if your lucky you can recover them, i just forgot the name of that program ..

Don't be so quick in formating! There's almost always a way to rescue the files. I know some very good ones.

There are ways to restore the files even after a format, but, it's going to cost you something probably.

sorry to here thats Jaun but you could copy all the windows and all information to another Hard disk by HD cronis

Sorry to hear that sad.gif

But have you tried a tool called GetDataBack? There's a version for FAT and NTFS.. it saved my ass once when a harddrive got corrupted and i lost 40gb's of mp3's. It saved everyone of them.

It can restore after a normal format aswell. But not a low-level format

if it's really important and you have the money for it, there are some buisinesses that recovers deleted stuff from harddrives. Anything can be recovered, but the longer they have been deleted and the more damaged the disc is, the more expensive it will be. It's usually VERY expensive, but they know what they're doing, so you will definitly get your files back.

But for the future: dont't save anything important on the C-drive. Buy another hard drive and use that for the important files, it doesn't have to be an external hard drive, just buy a regular one and install it inside the computer.

I have always had good luck with GetDataBack. It takes forever, like several days sometimes to recover the data, but it works and it is reasonably priced. Wow! format C:?

before you reformat have you tried restarting your computer in safe mode and and going to an earlier system restore point???

as soon as you turn you computer on hold down the F8, F12 or delete button (depends upon your make of computer), this will bring up a list of options is DOS format, select start in safe mose, this will disable any start up programmes and should short cut the application that is causing a problem. go to your system tools via the start button and select system restore, and try different restore points.

i am not an expert but i have royally screwed up my own computer so many times that i ahve had learn the hard way.

good luck.

Whenever I do something like that, I come in through a Linux live cd to access the other partition, I saved 10gb of music from being deleted by this last time. Linux - as it is a different OS can still hover around the windows files whilst runing off of the ram, you'll need at least 2 cd drives or an external HD to do this though as the live cd obviously takes up a slot, it also requires a bit of fiddling.

Damn, that's awful..
I've had the same problem a few times, but never lost as musch as an album recording sad.gif
But try to do what Trond Vold said, you might get very lucky smile.gif

You can recover files from a format as others have pointed out it can take a lot of time to do this.

If you have 2 Hard drives and the main drive gets a problem starting windows and seems there is no way of restarting or fixing the drive.
Dont format the problem drive if you want to save the data.
Use the 2nd drive to install windows and then use this Hard drive booting up windows with the windows problem drive as the Slave drive D.
You should be able to see all your files on the problem drive D and be able to back them up or move them onto the the new windows drive C:

I have 2 drives with windows installed incase of any problems.
Getting a cheap small drive as a back up windows starter drive is handy for the above.

Oh, so sorry about that Juan.
Once it happened to me too, and in that computer there were some documents regarding some exams I had taken at university, and I had to take them again for there was no copy of those documents!!

Sorry to hear that Juan, I've had some experiences like that, my hard-drive also got corrupted and I lost lot's of pictures etc . I know it's very frustrating sad.gif

This also partially depends on how the format was done. I'm guessing that you used Windows to do the format Juan, in which case you've almost certainly have only done a high level format. As such it's probably a case where the File Allocation Table was reset to zero rather then your actual data being completely removed. This is recoverable.

A low level format btw will set the FAT to zero and overwrite the entire hard drive partition several times, usually by writing 0 to each bite and so render your data gone. V unlikely that you did this btw as normally it's done by specialised software. Even this is recoverable though but needs some very sophisticated and expensive data mining software.

Anyway there are data recovery companies that can get your data back. They usually charge a fee for each Mb recovered. There are also lots of data recovery software packages that you could use so all is not lost.

Cheers,
Tony

That's bad Juan,sorry to hear...
Hope you'll manage to recover something from it tho! smile.gif

Posted by: Bogdan Mar 16 2008, 03:04 PM

Oh man I'm sorry this happened to you!! sad.gif All that valuable data..
Next time please don't rush the formatting because if your windows breaks it doesn't mean you can't access the files..Just take the hard drive out and make it a "slave" and connect it to another computer , it will boot up that computers OS and you will see all the files and folders normally and you can easily burn them to DVD or anything..

Posted by: Milenkovic Ivan Mar 16 2008, 05:41 PM

Sorry to hear it man... Did you erase the data? Maybe you can get it back, there are companies (or even softwares that you can buy) that do this kind of work (data rescue).
