Sounds good to me, the industry is really determined to kill real amps smile.gif

I'm interested.

You can also disable the IRs (and load your own) or also disable the amps and just use the IRs.
Strymon gear is top notch and at $399 list, that's very competitive.

Sounds great!! I was planning to replace my Jekyll & Hide from my smaller rig and get a Helix stomp. This pedal is another cool option to make it AMPless. biggrin.gif

Focused on cleans, I'd wait to see how it compares to a HX stomp.

Dig into the Iridium page via the Strymon website ... https://www.strymon.net/products/iridium/
Scroll down to "amps we've always wanted" and select Punch Amp. It gets into cranked (and modded), non-mv Marshall land. It also has an overdriven Vox AC-30 model (Chime Amp).

I've been waiting for a modeler/profiler type of amp or pedal that only focuses on 3 or 4 amps without effects - "just gimme the real sound of a few classic amplifiers". Strymon pedals start at $299.00 list. At $399 I doubt this will get cheaper (unless you buy used).
I really want to try one but I'd only ever use it for recording or possibly a gig where I'm not allowed to use an amp. *Casino lounge gigs a lot of the time. I suppose If I demo it with a decent set of headphones and one of my own guitars - ?
What do you guys who record a lot at home think?

There are cool sound demo's on youtube (their official channel) for each amp, I give high score for the balance of the tones but the breakup felt a bit compressed on video's. Not muffled or anything but made me a bit unsure on that aspect, at-least leaving me waiting to hear a comparison to helix (the stomp is more expensive but you get the fx so might be considered a better buy for some). Impulse cab.s can be changed or eq'd but with processors not much can be done for breakup character so I always focus most to that.

I didn't read the manual but from website it can't record from USB out (doesn't have soundcard functionality). Some will consider this as a bummer, as A/D conversion and possibly going through a preamp will increase noise-floor of recording. Personally I don't mind that if the preamps are decent (even cheap soundcards have good preamps these days), despite a little noise might give a beneficial recording tone too. And you also get direct-monitoring (no latency) from a hardware unit which is also a big plus.

Both sound great. In my opinion, really great! I perceived a difference but not a 'better'. *I hear a little more pick attack with the Strymon.
It comes down to what you prefer or "need".
I prefer no effects (other than spatial) with my amp/cab sims and I don't need or want anything other than the three classics.

He likely used the same ir cab.s so seems like a solid comparison. I liked the strymon a bit more but yeah both are great smile.gif curious about more drive sound comparisons which likely be more revealing.

A friend of mine is saving for a Kemper (for stage use), he really liked the sound but can't give-up on preset benefits of a processor. It's been many years since I played on stage but have preferred processors for less tap dance (with hardrock often boost or delay must go on/off quickly).

That amp stomp is an entire pedal board depending on ones needs. If one were a "pedal guy" there are many spiff programmable stomp controllers for non midi stomps. Basically a bunch of effects loops in a pedal controller. Still forces a player to stick to one preset per pedal, or buy more than one of said pedal. But still, the amp pedal and a chorus would be all some folks need.
