Hi Muris,
I was wondering what your thinking is on when to hybrid pick and when not to. I know that there really are no rules but ever since I joined this site and discovered your playing and have been tackling some of your lessons I notice that you seem to hybrid pick in situations that I find easier to do some other technique. An example would be the last lick in your Canon lesson. I tapped it and you did hybrid picking. For a player of your caliber who can pretty much use any technique he wants i would be interested to know why you choose to hybrid pick when you do. Are you just going for a certain sound? Another example is your Bb minor lesson. I noticed a couple licks you hybrid pick that seem to lend themselves to economy picking better, at least to me. Just curious what you are thinking. Maybe you aren't thinking about it and just doing it. I myself and kind of limited by my technique. I am striving to get where you are where I can play whatever technique I damn well please!! laugh.gif Maybe someday!!

Hi Monte. smile.gif

The reason why I use hybrid for certain licks
is surely the sound I get from it but also it's the comfort,
some licks are much easier to do with hybrid once you get the technique.
Actually,I'm finishing Hybrid Picking 3 level serial
so you'll plenty on material to work on. smile.gif

I guess we all gravitate to our strengths I know I have applied hybrid to some licks that I was having alot of trouble playing cleanly with a pick and they sound much better now. It is like you said, just a matter of getting the technique down. For me, some of the licks you do with hybrid seem to be much easier for me with economy picking or tapping. I really see hybrid as an advantage when doing string skipping. I'll keep working at it!! My goal this year is to start writing some songs and to really get my chops together, especially my picking and now hybrid picking. Keep rocking Muris!!!

Spot on,some licks ARE easier with economy but then we have this sound topic,
with hybrid you cannot hear the pick attack and it sounds more smoothly,
plus you can get some cool ala bass effects if you pop string a bit harder.
Work on and keep me updated!! smile.gif
