I do believe everybody noticed that scrunchie resting on the guitar neck in Guthrie's videos - the one he uses to mute his strings with, right?

Well, accidentally, I ran into this interesting product called Gruvgear Fretwraps - it's a more evolved scrunchie actually biggrin.gif

Here's a link to it: http://www.gruvgear.com/fretwraps

Has anybody used such a thing, or scrunchies? I guess these are more appropriate for fusion lead players, as I for one can't go without having open strings biggrin.gif

They do look useful but like you, I also couldn't sacrifice my open string sustain smile.gif

A friend of mine uses a cheap velcro strap at the nut, instead of the neck, to kill overtones.

I still see a big advantage of the scrunchie because you can pull it over the strings and off at will, without having to keep it on the first fret all the time smile.gif

I want rock star hair mellow.gif

I was also thinking about getting a scrunchie for my guitar, not that I play anything complicated enough to warrant it but it might make me 'look' like I know stuff...... complicated and impressive stuff.

Hmmmmm, always wondered about this thingie - I noticed it in Bucharest, when MAB came to perform but at that point I forgot to ask him to let me look at it (the dude resembles the attitude of a charming granny when he talks to you)

Very obnoxious, but TRUE laugh.gif The fun part is, that I always argue with my dad about my beard biggrin.gif He thinks it's futile - I think he doesn't understand laugh.gif

It works very well in my opinion, I always had to fiddle with the hair tie dampeners I was using to get the best mute of all the strings and lifting it over the nut in a pinch to get the open strings back was always tricky for me,the hairtie would hang up on the locking nut, with this thing all you have to do is flip it up in one quick motion, much faster than trying to get a hair tie over the nut. Altho it does look kind of strange rolleyes.gif

I'm sure the branded ones are really useful but I'm pretty happy using ordinary hair tie.

Once I stepped into a girl's shop and ask for hair tie with different colors. The female attendant ask if it was for my wife or daughter or girlfriend, I said it's for me (I was shaved bald at that time). She said "Sir you do realize you're bald right?". I said "Of course I'm bald! It's for my guitar". The attendant stared at me for five seconds and being a non guitar player she gave me a really long "riiiiiiiiiiiiiight, for the guitaaaaaaar. greeeeeaaaaaaat. Very good sir." biggrin.gif
