Guess The Progression

To help build our understanding and application of the different theory concepts we are covering here in the Professor’s Theory Guide, I will be posting various chords and progressions for us to analyze and check out together.

Here is the third analysis article, written out over an 8-bar chord progression. To begin, try and learn the chords on the guitar, always good to apply any theory concept and scale pattern to your instrument.

Then, try and answer the following questions, posting them below and using the “spoiler” button to the left of this page to keep others from seeing your answers.

1. What are the names of each chord in these 8 bars?

2. What is the key for this chord progression.

3. What is one scale that you could use to solo over these 8 bars?

4. What is a mode that you would use to solo over the chord in the 8th bar of this progression?

Spoiler:
1. A5-C5-D5-E5-Am-C-D-E
2. A Minor
3. A Pentatonic Minor
4. A Harmonic Minor

Post your answers below and I’ll be glad to check them out and help out with any questions you may have about this progression and chords.
