Muris,

Since I was last here I managed to almost perfectly nail your extreme neo classic and sweep etude lessons. I thought i was set for life minus a little consistency that I couldn't seem to build. So I tried the tough alternate picking lesson with the sweep positions and everything, and I have tried everything from repetition to a metronome, but I can not seem to buid speed. How long did it take you to be able to play something involving the techniques involved in that lesson? How many years after you started woudl you say you had that kind of technique? And how can I practice a given etude to increase speed and more importantly consistently? Also, how long would you say one should practice a single etude?

Thanks, ask if its confusing I am just frustrated!

Anthony

Hi Anthony.

Time is relative I'm afraid and we reach goals sooner
if we have high motivation and smart thinking.
No one can tell for sure how high is your motivation
or the way you think and therefor I cannot tell you exactly
how long it will take you to build up your speed.
But I can tell you focusing on time the way you do is kind a wrong,
it confuses you even more and frustrates you.
Enjoy your playing and practicing,
if you do it in a right way you'll nail everything.

How long have you been playing tho?

Btw, would be great if you could post videos of you playing those 2 lessons
so I could give you more detailed hints and advices. smile.gif

Well a year and a half aint that much to be frustrated,
you have plenty of time in front of you!
I can remember myself after year and a half, it was not that great,
now I've been playing for approx 1-15 years and things are quite different. smile.gif

Regarding video, you can use some cheap photocam with video option,
it would be just fine for starters. smile.gif
