A few days ago I had a strange situation. I was invited to a party as a guest. There is a band playing, which I did not know, and they played great. Then friends started asking me to play something (and such situations don't like, frankly), but I decided to please them!
Host approached to the guitarists and asked him to give me a guitar, and this guy said - no problem, just a few more songs! Passed an hour and gig ended and I didn't get a chance to play (thank goodness), but what surprised me then was the following:
Guitar player came up to me and literally said - Sinisa sorry, I know who you are, and I just couldn't give you a guitar, because what I could to play after you... ?!? Play as you played so far, I replied .

Have you found yourself in a similar situation, and how would you react in a situation like this guitarist ?

aahah yeessss

I was 17 and it was the second time we were going to play live in a bar. During the sound check an old man came and asked if he could play someting with his guitar just 5 minutes (he would do it before we star the show), of course we agreed.
He played jazz as a professional with a single acoustic guitar.
Fourunately for us, the crowd was rocker, so they didn't pay so much attention, but i was feeling like what am i going to do now?? hoorible situation.
Possible solution: actitude! if the guest player is better than you, just beat him with your attitude on the stage, that's my advice-

If one spends their time trying to figure out the minds, and how do deal with all the idiots in the world, one is going to stay mighty busy. Unless you must to deal with it for some reason, think of them as cock roaches, if they leave you alone, you leave them alone.

edit: on further reflection, the above was unfair to cockroaches. I keep a coffee can handy to try and catch bugs if they get into the house, and put them outside, when possible. I would not make that much effort with people like that. However I figure, cut cock roaches some slack, you can't expect them to know any better.

It's the lack of experience and lack of self-confidence. I've seen it numerous times.
