I would say that the technology is so good today that in the studio most people can't tell the difference between a properly set up modeling tone vs. tube amp. Marcus Lavendell can fool anyone with his tone. He's got the best tone I've ever heard and it's PodXT! Live is a different situation though. No substitute for a great tube amp in my opinion.
