I've been looking to get a Fender Highway One Strat in three tone sunburst, but no one has one, so I'm looking to just build a Strat myself. A maple neck with jumbo frets and a swamp ash body is about $200, plus whatever it costs for tuners and a bridge. I already have a loaded pickguard, so no need for that.

So, has anyone ever used Mighty Mite parts? If so, whats your opinion on their stuff?

Have not heard much on their parts. I can safely pitch for Grover and the usual suspects but that won't really help you look authentic on the strat.

The Mighty Mite parts are actually licensed by Fender, so save for the logo, they look just like Fender gear biggrin.gif I think EVH built some of his first guitars from Mighty Mite parts and pickups.

yh they're fine... you could look into getting everything from Warmoth, they would do paint job and you can get parts... can vouche if you put it together well you'll have a guitar that stomps all over a US strat!!

Also look into USCG but you may have to paint it yourself... but you don't seem like a man to shy away from challenge!!

how did the Peavey turn out?

I did look into getting a neck and body from Warmoth and doing all the finishing work myself, their stuff is definitely great quality. Plus I can get it exactly the way I want it. It would be a challenge, but you know me... tongue.gif So did you build one from Warmoth parts?

I checked out the USCG site and it seems like Warmoth has better prices and better selection.

That Peavey turned out pretty good, but I'm not completely satisfied with it. The frets are too small for my preference and the low E string doesn't resonate to my liking. It still a good sounding guitar, as the pickups in it are excellent, and its got great sustain, but I don't like the way the fretboard feels.

Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to start another project biggrin.gif I always wanted a maple neck/fretboard with a deep vintage amber tint.

I bought and fitted a Warmoth neck to a US Strat, I've also helped a couple of mated put them togeather and they are awsome!!

That been said they do work out pretty pricey!!

You could always buy some fret wire and re-fret your Peavey wink.gif there's an interesting project for you!! I've done a few re-frets and they're not for the faint hearted (I wouldn't recomend it - messed one up awfully!!)

I think doing a 3 tone sunburst for a first finish would be extremely hard!!

If I didn't tell you before head over to reranch.com and do to the forum there the guys are AMAZING at re-fins and have so much advice!!

I didn't do anywork on my current project last year but I'm going to get back on it this summer... a 60's Kay Red Devil, I sanded it down and restained it... just need to lacquer it and pit all the bit on smile.gif

Here is a cheap encore black strat I stripped down and re-finned... learnt a lot, took a lot of time but was v.hard and wasn't happy with it at all...

Here is my second project. My brothers old hertiage, stripped it down and gave it a natural finish, installed one of those P90/singlecoil picks and made a pickup surround from black walnut & gave it a re-fret with Jumbos wire...

That red guitar got a really nice color and finish biggrin.gif

Doing a three tone sunburst would be very difficult, thats why I was just gonna do a flat black or a transparent orange tongue.gif I could refret the Peavey, but I know for sure I would mess that one up... twice... first when I do it improperly, and then when I end up smashing it in frustration wacko.gif

But its too late, I already ordered the Highway One Strat ph34r.gif I got it as soon as Sweetwater got them in, and they're already sold out. So does anybody want a Peavey Strat Clone?

Thanks Ivan biggrin.gif I'm curious how those Alnico III pickups sound, supposedly they're very hot. Do you have any experience with those pickups?

Sorry I'm a bit late in on this one!!
Congrats on the HW 1, very nice guitar!!!!
As for your original enquiry..
Mighty Mite are fine, especially their electronic side. Their bodies and necks are fine too, although I'd rather use Warmoth for these! Having built from both I can vouch for them. I also think you get a better choice of Body/Neck shapes, routing AND finishing from Warmoth, especially if you want something a little more exotic!! The first guitars I ever built in the early 80's were all from MM parts (that's all we could get hold of back then) and their quality now is far better than it was back then!!!

Thanks Jones biggrin.gif Yes the Warmoth stuff is definitely the nicer of the two. I've heard their stuff are manufactured to higher specs than Fender. Sometime in the future I think I'll end up building a Partscaster from Mighty Mite parts, just to practice on, then later I'll think about getting a Warmoth custom biggrin.gif

Not really mate, no experience here regarding those pickups. All I'm certain is that if the wood is good, any pickup will sound rich.
