Some might prefer this instead of using the mixer.

I bet if they charged an arm and a leg they might give reaper more credit. Reaper was created by the creator of WinApp who sold it to AOL

Although we recommend Reaper here as an affordable and solid option for basic recording needs, when it comes to audio its pretty much lightyears ahead of any major DAW.

But the things is those who appreciate Reaper are either beginners or professionals and not those who're between. By professionals for example game audio designers, 3d sound designers (https://forum.cockos.com/forumdisplay.php?f=53), sampled/Kontakt instrument developers, mastering engineers even most plug-in developers use reaper for compatibility testing...because its customizeable, works wonders for specific engineering needs.

So it actually does get the credibility, but just not as much from the majority (beginner to semi-pro). But from the looks of it they seem to be doing fine in terms of sales.

Reaper is a killer daw to be sure. It's very powerful and has great editing tools. It's used by just about everyone along the spectrum from Noob to Pro. The only things is lacks are wads of virtual instruments, huge midi and sound libraries, a drum plugin, etc. However, given it's cost, it really can't be expected to include these things. It's really a Pro level framework that can be endlessly extended and customized which is it's true strength imho. It's brilliance lies in it's ability to carry one from dead level starter all the way to high end level pro. Anybody can grab it for free and then add on to it exactly what they want to add to create their own custom perfect DAW.

Also a small bonus is its so lightweight, one can decrease the buffer rate 1 tick more and get away without crackles compared to other daw's when recording guitar.

Very good point. Round trip delay can be reduced to almost nothing.
