It's completely open source and people can create songs for it as well so there are hundreds of songs out there for it.

Now we just need a game like which takes a real guitar as input, and scores you on your accuracy and timing. That'd be awesome.

I love GH2 on the 360, it's so much fun. Sure, it's not the real thing but I found it handy for developing my hand-speed and co-ordination in the early stages.

Unfortunatly I have a Laptop. I cant hold the keybord, the its supposed to be hold. But stiil, the game might help my finger-independence and since I'm only usully playing from my memory (after learning from Tab) this game might help me to play, what I'm reading. I mean at the same time.

Kinda fun, but I've had it crash twice on me!

And I wish the guy hadn't blatantly taken a bunch of comedy stuff that someone else did (ie., the yngwie parodies, the petrucci parodies. pretty much ripped completely), at least I wouldn't have done that (and they aren't as funny).

But still fun!

If you have Guitar Hero I or II you can download the songs from the original disc. Takes some time to convert the songs though.

I forgot to mention it's still relatively new and does crash randomly.

ive always wanted to try this game, and i recently got an Xbox360 but idk if i should buy this game. Does this game really improves at least in a minium percentage your guitar skills, in any way? because if not id rather practice with a real guitar.

The only real similarity is that you need to control your fingers. Other than that, you can shred on a real guitar and suck at guitar hero, or be awesome at guitar hero and suck at real guitar.

Having done both....

The skills don't really translate back and forth with the game and a real guitar. There's a video out there somewhere of one of the original guitar players for one of the songs in the game completely bombing out on it.

There are some very small things that cross over though.

For a non-guitar player, the red-orange reach is typically pretty difficult. You don't see a lot of going back and forth between them or red-orange chords til late in the game on the high levels. I had a hard time with it for a year or so. Then when I got my guitar, I didn't play GH for a few months. When I went back, I was overshooting orange a bit because I can reach a lot further now than I did before. Also, I think guitar players are more oriented towards repetitive practice to get the muscle memory locked in than non-guitar players do. As the game progresses, you really can't rely on your eyes reading the notes as they come down as fast as they do (witness: http://youtube.com/watch?v=00SDCE5h1UU. Think sightreading but only getting to see two bars at a time.

GH does help a little bit with left hand finger strength and independence if you're a raw newbie at guitar like I was. When you're just starting out on guitar, your fingers move together a lot and your ring finger and pinkie are pretty weak. The higher levels of the game force you to use your pinky.

So, while I don't doubt that playing Guitar Hero well and practicing real guitar do affect each other at least in the early stages, I wouldn't recommend practicing one to improve with the other.

I'll keep playing and improving in both. GH is going to be the only way for me to play Jordan probably.

I've been wanting to try Guitar Hero for the longest time now. I don't have a PS2, or XBox 360 and am past the gaming phase of my life, but Frets of Firs is a awesome alternative for me. I installed it the other day, and for those looking for the PS2 Hero songs, you can find them on bit torrents. Anyways, the PS2 songs are awesome on this, amd just got done playing Sweet Child O' Mine, what a rush! It's mighty fun to play.
