GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ I'm So Depressed And Now I'm In Tears.

Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Feb 25 2008, 11:38 PM

My life sucks so much. And its even worse now. I accidentally knocked the case of my caparison guitar when I was putting it away and it fell down and hit the guitar and knocked a HUGE chunk of it out of the guitar. F*****G 1700 pound down the drain. I've only had it two months and it was an awesome guitar and now its got a huge chunk out of it. Why is my life so rubbish. I can't do anything with it. It is beyond repair. It looks hideous now. I'm in tears. I've wasted 1700 pound of my hard earned cash and I havem't even paid for it yet. I have to pay for another 22 months for a guitar that is ruined. I may as well just kill myself as my guitars are the only thing that bring me happiness in life. Now it is messed up.

Omfg, terrible man. Dont know what to say, other than im really, really sorry to hear this.

Posted by: SLASH91 Feb 25 2008, 11:43 PM

Don't worry man. Things seem like s### right now, but they will certainly get better. I know how it feels to damage your guitar, just the other day I knocked a pretty bad chip in the paint of my Ibanez, felt like crap for a while. I know it feels bad, but don't think of killing yourself over a guitar. It's still playable isn't it?

Posted by: Smells Feb 25 2008, 11:55 PM

sad.gif eek mate that sucks so bad when stuff like that happens!

Are you sure it cant be repaired in any way, where is the damage?

Many years ago I was given my first real decent guitar by a management company, a US Jackson custom was worth around £1500 at the time, awesome guitar my absolute pride and joy, it was translucent red, beautiful finish, as I was playing it fell off the strap and I dropped it, it fell really awkwardly and weird, two of the frets popped out, chipped the rosewood fingerboard and put a big chunk in the bottom (at the front of the guitar) I got it repaired but I was the same as you feel now, it was totally ruined, I feel for you mate, I felt terrible and I had been given it, you`ve spent your hard earned cash on it sad.gif

It's not playable because I can't even look at it any more. It was the most beautiful guitar I'd ever seen and now it's ugly and I can't look at it. I loved the guitar and protected it and always kept it in the case and never took it to band practice or gigs as I wanted it to be perfect for ever for me to practice on it. Now it's ruined :'(

The damage is on the front. A massive chunk of it has been knocked out. Might in plain sight every time I pick the guitar out of the case so I don't think I can look at it again. I'm so miserable as I loved that guitar and it was my best guitar by miles. Not even the Parker compares to it sad.gif

Oh man, that's terrible..
I am really sorry to hear this sad.gif

Sure it can't be fixed?

Posted by: Milenkovic Ivan Feb 26 2008, 12:05 AM

Sorry to hear it man. Is it definitely beyond repair. Can you play it or something at least. THere must be a solution.

I have an advice, I know it's difficult but try to calm down and not stress your nerves. Health is the most important thing in this world not money or guitars! Trust me. Don't worry too much. I know it is hard but life goes on. It will be ok! smile.gif

Posted by: Guitarman700 Feb 26 2008, 12:06 AM

that really sucks, especially an expensive guitar like that. when i had my king v it was getting chipped alot because of the body style, but that was a $300 dollar guitar, nothing like yours. i cant imagine how much that must suck.

Posted by: DeepRoots Feb 26 2008, 12:07 AM

Im real sorry man- hope everything works out. I know how much it must mean to you sad.gif

Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Feb 26 2008, 12:08 AM

I was taking it into work to show some friends tomorrow who play guitar but I can't take it now as it's hideous and I always look after everything I own sad.gif I don't know if it can be repaired but I know it will never be the same. I think I will stick it on ebay. At least if I get 300 pound maybe towards the 1700 it wont be as bad a deal but I'd still be losing 1400. sad.gif

OMG! that's worse than I thought. ohmy.gif sad.gif

Posted by: Pavel Feb 26 2008, 12:20 AM

Yeah it definitely sucks but look at it this way:

- no one can steal your amazing Caparison guitar because it has YOUR mark on it - pretty obvious mark
- Steve Vai himself said that it's only the sound that matters and his EVO JEM is totally destroyed but it sounds amazing and he doesn't even want to repair it so it doesn't loose it's sound - and it still stays his best guitar
- one day you'll get big and people will pay much more than 3400 for that guitar with a huge chunk out of it
- be happy you didn't destroy the neck so it's still playable and not only playable - it is the same Caparison guitar!!!!
- now it's your new CUSTOM guitar wink.gif
- when you have the wall painted in fresh new white color, your G/F comes in and tries to hit you with a tomato you get this huge red sign on your wall...first you're mad, 2 days later you don't care wink.gif
- buy a new car - hit it slightly in the wall, take off a huge part of your black color - in 2 days you don't care - hey, that car costs much more than the guitar wink.gif

Cheer up buddy! Now plug in your baby and play some tasty solo - you'll feel better straight away wink.gif

Didnt you pre-order a BC Rich Stealth?

Man, I'd kill for one of those + try not to think about what your guitar is worth to other people, its go a bit of a bash in it for sure, but thats just part of the attitude, my telecasters hacked to bits but I still love the thing. smile.gif

i'm really sorry ... my thoughts are with you.

i think i can imagine how you feel right now. I have had a complete loss of most of my gear a few years ago. First i thought it's the end of the world, but finally that what is left you will love even more !! but by now it's painful ...

My other guitars are bashed around but I gig with those. This one was special. It was my pride and joy and I loved having it in the room and playing on it. Now I can't look at it so I'm just gonna try and recuperate as much losses as possible. How much do you think I can get for the guitar with a chunk in the front if it cost me £1700. Do you think I could get £300 off someone for a damaged guitar. I just threw the guitar across the room in the case however so if anyone wants it ask soon before I snap the neck off the ugly piece of s***. That's all ugly pieces of s*** like me deserve though.

Posted by: Trond Vold Feb 26 2008, 12:56 AM

sad.gif Sorry to hear that..

But i'm sure there must be some way to repair it? .. the missus had a little car accident with a pole that just came out of nowhere not so long ago. it looked REAL bad, but it was fixed like it was nothing.

Well, you cant compare a guitar to a car.. but i'm still sure there's a way to fix it..

Posted by: Tuubsu Feb 26 2008, 01:06 AM

uuuhh! Sorry to hear that dude... sad.gif

Just don't throw it anymore... after you have slept over it you would not wanna do that... My condolences... sad.gif

Yeah.I ordered a BC Rich Stealth but that was only 1000 dollars.

Man that sucks. But things can only get better. I always put little chips in my guitar and I hate myself for it, but at the end of the day, as long as it still sounds good, that's all that really matters.

Posted by: Xranthoius Feb 26 2008, 01:37 AM

Don't feel bad, keep on rocking and save up for another one. Yeah thats a lot of money but you can do it! Yeah thats is a lot of money... maybe you CAN get it repaired. smile.gif

My post should come up soon in Classifieds.I'm selling all 3 of my guitars because I have lost interest now. I'm useless at guitar, bass and singing even after 6 years playing guitar and all my life playing musicial instruments. And the guitars make me miserable now. Some good prices on them so when they come up please give me some serious offers.

If you never listen to another person ever, listen to me now. RECONSIDER. for me guitar is the most wonderful thing in the world. and you know what? ive felt this way too. i wanted to never play again, i thought i was complete crap. but i kept going. and i am so glad i did. just my 2 cents though.

Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Feb 26 2008, 01:47 AM

I think it's about time for me to stop as I really don't enjoy it anymore. I've lost interest in my band and damaging my favourite guitar that I've looked after so carefully and polished every day was the final straw. I want to sell the guitars as I want somebody to own them and have fun with them like they are supposed to be for. I don't have any fun anymore so it is time I sold them to a home where they will be looked after and loved smile.gif

Guitarman is right. Im really sorry for what happened, and i dont want to be mean, but if you're quiting guitar, in fact, if you're quitting MUSIC because of that... oh man, i dont even wanna say it, but you know it anyways.

Be strong man, Pavels advices are really good, and you dont need a 4000 dollar guitar to produce good music, and to play awesomely.

You seem to be making decisions under some kind of emotional stress. Thats never a good idea, at least wait a few days before deciding your next move. You can always sell the guitars a couple weeks from if you still really want to, but if you sell them now you'll never get them back.

It isn't just because of the guitar. Many factors have led me to this.

Losing interest in band (I write every bit of every song which is stressful and nobody else can even help me arrange gigs)
Never have time to practice because of work
Useless on guitar and don't even know how to hold pick anymore really correctly
Can't play songs I love
Damage to my favourite guitar
Miserable Life currently

etc etc.

I want somebody to own the guitars and have fun with them. That will make me happy. Myself owning them will not.

I spent that much money because the guitar is astonishing. Breathtaking. The looks when it wasn't damaged, the sound, the design is unbelievable. It is designed so it is straight the whole way down the guitar and if you lay it on a table is touches in two places only perfectly and nowhere else. It is made by some very talented people and a lot of love has gone into creating it. I loved that guitar and it was worth every penny until a stupid mistake due to a lack of concentration and that is it sad.gif

I'm not in a good time in my life. Don't know what I'm doing or where I'm going in life. I'm trying to struggle through smile.gif

I think I might go to bed but I don't think I'll be able to sleep.

Thanks for actually trying to help me out and that. If I can bring myself to take a picture tomorrow I will sad.gif

I have a theory exam on Wednesday for music also and haven't done anything today apart from cry. sad.gif

You dont have to be the best guitarplayer in the world to have fun with it and have fun with music
Take a little break, let the need to play build up, and then see if you feel the same

Dude, think this over. If you sell all of your gear, think of all of the hours of practice which will have gone to waste, all the money, and most importantly, THE best hobby ever. You don't have to be the next Yngwie Malmsteen for guitar to matter. I mean, hell, look at Kirk Cobain, a pathetic guitarist, who happened to be in one of the most famous bands ever, and I'm sure that your already better than he was. One day you will hate yourself if you sell all of your gear; just please rethink it.

Posted by: mattacuk Feb 26 2008, 09:46 AM

Hey man, that really sucks about the guitar - but you will move on from this for sure smile.gif Also, it seems from reading your posts the guitar is just one small thing of many getting you down. Whatever it is I can assure that these problems are addressable!! I was stuck in an IT job which was not bad paid, but extremely stressfull and I wasnt happy at all.

Also I needed some challenges in my life ! So now im studying web devleopment and im hopeing to be a web and graphic designer when my course finishes. Also when I joined GMC I pretty much started guitar from scratch - which was perfect !!

Try to look at how you can start to change the things in your life that are bothering you today. Many hundreds of thousands of us fellow humans also go through some quite seriously rough times, but by pulling through them things dont bother you as much as they once did smile.gif

Good luck !!

P.S , Just buy an average guitar like I did, it plays fantastic but only cost a a couplde hundred pounds! I wont break this one like I would an expensive one and I get more practice done than polishing wink.gif For me a real guitarist is all about the skills and not the instrament smile.gif

Just so you know, most damages are repaiarble. Broken headstocks, chunks out of the wood etc. Just a little something to keep in mind while you're tossing it around adding to the repair cost of a fine guitar dry.gif

Posted by: Pavel Feb 26 2008, 10:42 AM

Man, take it easy - don't sell your guitars! Just let the guitar off for a week, don't play it at all. In a week you'll really start to miss it!

Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Feb 26 2008, 10:59 AM

I've emailed the place I bought it off which is an official Caparison dealer to see what can be done. I hope they can fix it back to perfection sad.gif Otherwise it's going on ebay as I can't play it again seriously. I put it in the loft yesterday sad.gif

I know Pavel is right about the damage and I always say dings and chips make it yours but a guitar I've tried my best to look after and not gig with has been damaged and I think that is a different thing. I was blown away with the guitars looks and sound.

My friends complimented the guitar before but now they say it's ruined sad.gif

I think I may buy a guitar today to commemorate the passing of this one.

Let me introduce you to a couple friends of mine.

The first is "The Pound is way stronger than the dollar right now", the second is "online auction sites geared towards americans", and the third is "They have caparison guitars on them for $2100 USD, roughly 1050#" and lastly "You have a job you don't like but pays you well so you can get afford another one eventually."

And here is the http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Caparison-TAT-Neck-Thru-OHSC-Papers-etc-836_W0QQitemZ200202189172QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item200202189172 I think you two have met.

Keep your head up man, I've been fleeced so far this year. In the span of 3 weeks I found out I needed new tires for my car, my apartment broken into and my computer stolen (no insurance and had to come out of pocket for a new lap top because I'm pretty much addicted to the internet, not really but I'd be really bored without it), then found out that I owe the government $500 in taxes for the year of 07. That's about $2k in the hole in one month where I have very strict budgeting so it smashed my budget a couple months to pay for it. As infuriating as it is, I still keep my head up.

That link isn't my guitar. That is a T.A.T. Mine is a T.A.T. 2 which has two humbuckers rather than the SSH set up of the TAT. I know you can get them for cheaper on ebay but it costs a lot for shipping and customs also so in the end it would come to 2100 dollars + 200 dollars + 17.5% which is 2700 dollars. So a slight bit less.

Everything has gone for me this month also. My PC died as well. It isn't good is it sad.gif

What if you got someone to ship it say it was worth like $500 USD or it was a gift, would you still have to pay customs?

See you around buddy!

Great advice; give it time to settle down because when things go wrong you can feel like a loser and get into a whole negative cycle of self-loathing and depression. After a while you will feel better. You must not allow yourself to stay in the 'I am a loser' mentality because you are NOT a loser. Things Will improve. Go talk to a good friend about it rather than shut yourself away in anger and self-pity. I know it is hard to do this.

Watching the news lately on TV I saw a town in Australia where they are flooded out and their entire homes are ruined. Hurricane Katrina in the U.S.A saw an entire city of New Orleans devastated. See some of these events and your own accident takes on a clearer perspective. This doesn't mean that your loss means nothing. Allow yourself to be upset for a while then think of positive solutions and picture a future where you will be playing a great guitar again.

I repeat; Don't go down the 'I am a loser' path. So you had an expensive accident. We all have these things happen occassionally. Grieve for a little then move on. You'll look back one day and find that you learned something from the bad experience. Imagine having children one day and they tell you about something they loved that has been stolen or smashed. You will be able to empathise with them, put your hand on their shoulder and lead them to the knowledge that its not the end of the world. Hang in there mate.

I know someone who works as a psychiatrists, and he alsways sais "what's the worse case situation right now?" and always look at the question in a realistic way. Than what's the worst case? Well that you have to buy a cheap guitar and play on that one for a couple of months, it's not realy great, but it's better then no guitar!

You'll deal with it! Just trust yourself, you'll get over this!

What if you got someone to ship it say it was worth like $500 USD or it was a gift, would you still have to pay customs?

I don't know man. I don't know how it works unfortunately. I'm guessing that could work well.

I may as well just kill myself

Hey, what the hell, NEVER say something like that! Ok?
I can understand, it's soo frustrating to feel like that... especially when you haven't got so much money and you make lots of sacrifices to get what you desire... but nevermind, I'm sure things like that happen to everyone... Last year I spent 280 euros for a huge bike and they robbed it to me after a week! Now I don't have a bike. dry.gif
I'm sure you can work it out to adjust your instrument or buy a new one (check out ebay's offers sometimes they're huge!)
but PLEASE, NEVER EVER talk about killing yourself!!!!!!! NEVER!!! Just because you lost a guitar, you wanna loose something infinitely more precious, such as YOUR OWN LIFE? Never ever say that, neither for joking!!

Posted by: Goliath Feb 26 2008, 02:38 PM

I've not shipped internationally except once to Canadabefore and at the post office they asked what I was shipping and I told them it was a video game and it was a present and so far as I could tell, they didn't have to pay customs on it, but that might be different due to the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Does anyone have an intimate knowledge with customs so we can figure out how to cheat them? I do so with absolutely no qualms in my heart as I think of all the money governments waste and flat out lose. I would volunteer my services to help you get it replaced if it were US made and try that custom route, but it looks like all those are straight from Japan.

Yeah, they are all Japanese guitars and pretty rare. They are probably one of the best guitars they make in Japan.

Ever since I saw your review of one I've been dying to get my hands on one, but I can't find one anywhere and that's a whale of a guitar to throw $2k at having never even held one. They are beautiful just the same. I read your review ages ago, but what do you think of it now? I don't think I could part with $2k without ever playing one but man they are beautiful.

True katzie. Looking at worst case and making a plan for that put's things in perspective.

I understand how you (OC) feel about your guitar, I would be pretty upset if I chipped my beauties.
I like to buy nice stuff and I take care of them. I like them to look good and taken good care of.
But, I'm buying things because I want to use them. Whether it's my car or guitar or whatever I rather use them and see them worned and torn, used and damaged, than being stuffed away in mint condition to no joy. And when I use my stuff things happen to them and they get worn. That's inevitable.

Posted by: audiopaal Feb 26 2008, 03:03 PM

Hey man!

Don't stop playing, you'll regret it in the end..
I'm not the greatest player either, but man I'm still having fun smile.gif

Just pray they can fix and if not, play a cheaper one unntil yhe day comes you can afford a new one.
And by then you're probably a better player and maybe you'll find a guitar you like even better!? smile.gif

It's incredible. Pictures don't do it justice. It's looks are amazing, It sounds out of this world, it is designed by talented geniuses, It NEVER goes out of tune however much you play it or hit the whammy system. It always stays perfectly in tune. I've had it 4 months and it is still in perfect tune as I test it every week to make sure.

I'd advise anyone to try one out. The Horus had a bit of a wooden plank neck but the Caparison neck is perfection.

Why was I stupid? One little lack of Concentration and its damaged badly. Why couldn't it have happened to my Parker Nitefly which is natural wood anyway and wouldn't have been noticeable. sad.gif Life sucks like that.

Get some pictures of it, I gotta see what this damage is.

I will take one when I'm home tonight. I need to take one for the shop anyway to see if it can be fixed. They said it should be fixable but they need to see it and they quoted me £300.

Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Feb 26 2008, 03:30 PM

For anyone that didn't know.

This is the guitar that was damaged sad.gif

Here is the damage :'( I'm sending the pictures to the shop which will give me an idea of if it can be fixed. Do you guys think it can?

Posted by: mattacuk Feb 26 2008, 09:06 PM

That doesent look so bad man, im sure they can repair that no probs smile.gif

Posted by: blindwillie Feb 26 2008, 10:28 PM

Oh yes, that should be repairable.

Posted by: Pavel Feb 26 2008, 11:28 PM

Oh maaaaaaaaaan, from what you've described it looked like it's the end of the world. That's a MINOR damage - that's not even considered a damage if you look at the place it's scratched! smile.gif So cheer up - really - there is nothing to waste your nerves on! smile.gif

Posted by: Owen Feb 26 2008, 11:31 PM

Man, thats just a little scratch! I was thinking you'd taken at least a 3 inch square chunk out by the way you were describing it. Not the end of the world I dont think, if you still have the pieces that will clear up no problem!

Posted by: MickeM Feb 26 2008, 11:31 PM

Repairable!
Bummer on the paint job though.

Posted by: Stevie·Ray·Vaughn Feb 26 2008, 11:34 PM

Ohhh jeez man thats repairable! smile.gif By the way you described it you'd think half the guitar was missing. Like Pavel said, thats just a minor damage smile.gif

Posted by: Spreedmaster Feb 26 2008, 11:36 PM

If they're going to charge you £300 to repair that little chip, the repair job better be unoticable.

Posted by: JVM Feb 26 2008, 11:41 PM

OC, may I ask what you described to them when getting a quote? I would think that would be easily repairable for less than that.

Posted by: SLASH91 Feb 26 2008, 11:43 PM

Yeah, man, I thought that you had bashed like the entire front half of the guitar off. laugh.gif They should be able to fix that. wink.gif

Posted by: kevin-riff-after-riff Feb 26 2008, 11:51 PM

hmm, put it this way
i have had a amazingly terrible month, schools been so boring i want to shoot myself, schools been so rediculous about tiny small things such and instead of any good neat pants;such as my pin striped ((very very lightly pinstripe));we can only now wear plain pants WTF!, i cut my right hand index finger with ice skating blades and its still not healed so i cant hold plectrum properly, my newly invented practice regime has been destroyed thanks to all these random f?8cked up evens thats been happening to me resulting in me not improving a bit, accidents keep happening to me and i dont think they are accidents anymore; things keep falling on me and stuff and i keep somehow cutting my hands in different places with random things that shouldnt be that sharp that i would bleed for that long because it cut so deep (like the metal bit on the slidey bit inside my desk!!) so yeah, at least you are physically fine, because i am both metally and psysically screwed up!
that cheer you up? hope it did coz compared to me u are in heaven

Hopefully the quote will come down when they see the damage then smile.gif I think I probably described it pretty badly sad.gif I've sent them the pics so will go proper quote tomorrow. It's an actual Caparison dealer though so they will probably charge a bit more. I'm guessing they wont be able tosort the paintjob out though? sad.gif

I sent them pictures now of the damage and they changed their quote of 300 pound to 150-200 pound smile.gif So that is slightly better I guess biggrin.gif

Some of us are more anal about the looks of our guitars you know, I mean if my RG 20th got a ding like that I would also be very very upset.

Posted by: Trond Vold Feb 27 2008, 01:10 PM

I was expecting it to look something like this:

Glad to see it's something repairable smile.gif

Posted by: Goliath Feb 27 2008, 01:23 PM

If they wanted to do it right, they would need to "blend" the paint job, which might require sanding the surrounding area of the guitar. That frozen sky paint job looks like a base coat with an accent coat sponged over the top of it. It is feasible that they could blend it pretty close, will it be 100%? Probably not, but I think you can at least get an 80% + finish where you wont' notice it until you look for it. I also thought the damage would be worse, i was expecting the bottom cut away to have broken off.

Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Feb 27 2008, 01:27 PM

It looks worse because of the finish. As I said earlier my Parker wouldn't have been noticeable if it had happened to that. Because it's a random look finish I think it will look almost like new when it's done as it'd be hard to tell if a place wasn't right because of how the rest of the finish works. I hope it will be as good as new. I will post a pic when I get it back. smile.gif

And I think I'd die if any of my guitars looked like that lol
