I practice about 2 hours a night on my Strat. The Super Slinkys are about a year old. They're doing ok. When should one change strings?

you play 2 hours a day and you're using year old strings? The time is now bro tongue.gif

Seriously, with heavy playing in humid climates or if you have sweaty hands (or both, if you're me), then I find about every 2-3 months is about adequate. If your EBG strings are black and not silver , it's time to change them.

what I do is I run my finger underneath the string just to see how it feels, if it's REALLY notchy and coarse I'll replace them. Nothing sounds nicer than a guitar in tune with nice new strings=)

acually, nothing sounds better than a guitar with new strings, in tune, and the strings have been cleaned with those ernie ball string wipes. wink.gif i got those for christmas, i love cleaning the strings. it acually makes them last longer.

You should change strings every 1 month if you play 2 hours per day and just practice. If you go on gigs, new set before every gig not older than 10 days is the best solution for me.

you can change it when you feel there is no more sustain from it also it depends on your playing 2 to 3 monthes
is enough for it
