Oh man... was the guitar ok afterwards?

Not really..the neck was cracked, it needed a big repair but a luthier from Ghent here pulled it off..

Fall down with an LP and stress the neck ... the headstock will break 9 times out of 10.

I did it with a 'nighthawk'. It fell and busted just from the height of leaning against a wall for 30 seconds that I took my eye off it. Easy fix. Every decent luthier can fix a Gibson headstock break/crack ... because they have to do it all the time, lol! There's barely an LP made before 1980 that doesn't have a headstock crack/break.

One of the guys I work with has an '83 black standard. He's busted it TWICE! and the guitar still sounds fantastic. It's a rare example of an 80's model that isn't too heavy and sounds great with the stock pkups.

I had to do this headstock repair on my own Les Paul about 8 years ago. Still plays as good as ever. The accident happened when it was leaning on my couch and just slipped from a bad angle onto a soft carpet... fractured the headstock by the neck. The way these headstocks are shaped and angled it doesn't take very much to crack one! I am much more conscience where I lean my guitars since then!
