Hello guys. I was wondering if anybody had the opportunity of trying one of this Schecter guitars. I sold my old Ibanez RG520qs because I rarely used it and I want to get a rocker guitar in this range of prices to have it as a second guitar in gigs (or with a different tuning).
Do you have any thoughts about this one... I was also thinking on Fernandes Monterrey model.
This model isn't available in Argentina so I can't try it before buying... sad.gif

I heard some good things about it, in fact all Schecters are worth their price, really solid guitars. But I don't like it's shape, I think that classic les pauls are better looking than this schecter variation of the shape.

I"ve been impressed with most of the Schectors I've ever played. They make some really nice guitars. Even their cheaper models play well and sound great. This one looks like an updated les paul. This is going to offend some folks sensibilities as per the previous post. I play a Minarik Lotus which is also described as an "ugly cousin" of the les paul. Although, I like interpretations of traditional body shapes, they are not for everyone. But you have to decide if it's for you. Make sure you play one before buying. And put it through an amp that is similar to what you have.

Sometimes, when you visit a music store, they will plug any guitar you choose in to a Marshall Stack which isn't really a fair comparison with what most players have at home.

yeah, I also heard lots of great things about Schecter.. the other model that I like from them is the tempest one.. I like how it looks and it's not an imitation of any classic guitar. There isn't any local store that has the solo 6 models but I think that I could try the tempest since I know that it can be found in stores here.

Tempest is surely a great looking axe, there are big chances it will be my second guitar after I buy a new amp:)

Hmmm, tricky thing you cannot try it out Gabe. I've played some low-entry Schecters, and they were nice guitars, a bit "weak" but nicely made and comfortable. The Fernandes Monterrey model looks great, I bet it's a very good guitar for rock. If I didn't have the choice, I would get it from the web, if possible, at least it's a way of getting it, and I'm not sure what could be that wrong on it. You're experienced played, look at the specs, look at reviews, and can make that decision. You can mod it a bit, and if it is a big problem, you can sell it as almost new.

it's a good idea! I've never bought a guitar in ebay but I've bought other cheaper items and I've never had any problem. I think that this could be the best way to go...

Why not an upgrade to your Gibson LP Standard instead of getting a cheap Schecter?!?
You could get a LP Standard or even a LP Custom and keep your Les Paul Studio as the backup guitar...

It really makes sense what Zakk says but it's not a guitar that I could afford now. You know.. here in this poor country everything costs much more. sad.gif

I would rather wait and save up some money for a better guitar than buying an inferior one right on the spot... but that is up to you!

I would do it If I wouldn't need a second guitar right NOW!... I started this thread because I thought that a Schecter custom was near in quality to a Gibson Studio.. that's what I read in many forums but I didn't check it by myself.
