I haven't been playing bands songs much lately but decided to do it a bit more. I've been looking at quite a few songs to try and i notice quite a lot of them use open strings in there riffs. Though they must do it so fast you can barely notice it. I'm trying to learn to play this one riff and just can't do it because playing the open strings seems too fast. Like the main riff could be played on the A string and they'll use open on the E in between certain notes and tips on how to improve on that?

Is it metal? Cause a lot of metal uses that kind of thing, just check out Kai's lessons. For that kind of thing, using downpicking is okay, it's actually quite hard to alternate pick that kind of thing IMO and you won't get the right sound.

Yeah it is it's cloud connected, i can do everything else fine but just that bit. Although the past hour or so it's got better but i'm nowhere near the speed they do it yet but i can at least play it through at a reasonable place but i screw up when i get into like the fourth time round tongue.gif. I thought this song would be a good place to start for this kind of stuff so i'm going to practice it until i can do it. Also the palm muting the open string and then letting the rest ring out straight after can be a bum at times!
