After mod.ing guitars, pickups and also beta testing for cab. ir's my head can get messed up on what a good sound is smile.gif using backing tracks for testing and tuning the tone is very useful for me.

I wonder if you guys prefer such approach and also recommend anything?

If it goes for guitars...I'm at the same point. I don't know what is good anymore so I decided to keep trusting myself. but...as it goes for all mix I like some cuts of 4-6 kHz from this production

Simialr mix thinking - very juicy guitars : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KmYFY5oOvM

I used a blues backing track for a while;

really helps with pick height adjustment as I wanted to get a good clean sound on all switch positions. But After a while I noticed the ear gets too used to the sound and starts to take too much risk smile.gif

Playing through computer is nice but a reference real amp would be so handy...but affording one is another story smile.gif off topic but I listened to that cab. demo you did by the way and it sounds very versatile smile.gif

I'm afraid I just proved that anything can sound like...anything...You know what I mean smile.gif Mostly when it comes to one player using different amps....he will always search for "his" tone no matter what he plugs into tongue.gif It's sad but none demo show how the amp feels in Your hands...sad.gif

As for the guitar tones I like to recheck KSE clips. My basic idea is...I think most famous band afford expensive studios and very often they use real amp because people who make mix are "the gurus" tongue.gif That's just a hope...I'm afraid they still use Axe or something so the judgement is worth nothing. I modern playing I found many bands sound...the same....exactly the same...I don't like this. I appreciate when band decide to record real amp. I suppose Stain did it that way.
