Just keep playing and practicing what YOU like mate. Before you know it, people will be lined up wanting to play your style. You always have members here to rock with.

Don't worry mate, there will always be times like this, even when you are in the band and rocking, you will feel that there are too many fans of other types of music and not yours. But often things are not what they seem to be, and the only important thing I can suggest is to push strong with your style, and improve improve improve. Your time will come, maybe not on the day when you imagined it, but it will come if you are good at what you do and believe in it. Cheer up and keep rockin!

If you have a vision about the music that YOU want to play then definitely follow this, don't jump on any trend that might be hip in the moment. There is nothing wrong with Death metal (to stick to your example) but if you don't feel like playing this style then don't even think about it. Try to work on your own thing and I am sure that at some point you will also find other musicians that share your vision.
