Hi, I have been playing guitar for about 1 year now. About 2 weeks after I started playing, me and my dad went to a local Thanksgiving party, and a guy there played whole Freebird solo. My dad asked me "Now, when are YOU going to be able to play like that?" Well now since I feel I am capable of doing it, I want to learn the Freebird solo, I've basically mastered all the licks in the song except for just a few.... I'm sure you are familiar with the "trilling lick" that is halfway through the solo and contains the same phrase going on and on at a fast speed.

Ever since I have been playing the guitar, when there are 2 notes that are side by side on different strings, I always used my index finger to fret one of the notes while using the middle finger to fret the other note. This seemed to always work until recently when I tried to play the above lick and I couldn't make it flow over and over like the original Freebird solo. Looking for an answer to this problem, I went to Youtube and watched people playing the solo. I discovered that every single one of them used 1 index finger to fret both 15th frets, instead of index and middle finger like me. So I was just wondering, is this the proper way to play and am I doing it all wrong and need to start over to learn this method?
