I'll see if I can come up with something playing over the top of the neck, might have to be atmospheric though

Excellent, I want to jam over this one as well (the solo in the lesson was written)!

L.A. is back in quarantine so I'm gonna do a wah-wah rhythm part and big Gilmourish slide part with delay.

Try right clicking on it (if you can) and a download/save file box should come up. Or possibly in your prefs (mac and/or browser) change the downloads setting to "ask" where.

Hello friends!! Welcome to this new "post-quarantine"? (not here in my city, we are still on quarantine!) Collab!
This one is based on this amazing new lesson: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Futuristic-Blues/.
Wow Ken, that's great, the slide somehow reminds me possibly of a RHCP track, I think, can't quite place it though.

If so, it is purely coincidental as I don't own even one Chili Peppers record . I know they're 'local boys' but I was never really into them.
I was going for a Pink Floyd/David Gilmour thing.

That's beautiful klasaine!! I can really hear those Gimourish vibes here. This makes me think: Do you have an instrumental album? if not.. when is it coming???

Yeah, for any reason, this song came to mind before Ken's solo started:

No Obviously I 'hear' them all the time and have also been to several shows. *A few before they even had a record deal. I'm just not that into them. I do like some of their songs.

On safari / mac - if I right click and choose "download linked file" - the file downloads immediately to the folder called "downloads" without giving you the option to choose download location. Maybe that is what is confusing?
Yeah man, just go for a 1 or 2 note repetitive rhythmic thing. Maybe put a weird effect on it. This is how we learn. I'm learning how to use a daw. I haven't done home recording on my own since the days of cassette multi-tracks.

Amazing stuff - from 00:20 is extremely groovy and fresh, I would be very proud of this take! The tone is super spacey as well.
I have re-listened to this one on better monitors - and since I know you are improving your recording chops urgently I wanted to add a comment.
Sound is great here but time based effect need more work. I am guessing this is not a priority of yours since you are probably sending dry files to your customers. But basically I can only hear a small room reverb whereas the backing calls for something larger and brighter/ice:er - esp the rhythm guitar sounds dry to me.
My tip would be to listen to what "room/spacial" impression you get from the backing using headphones with fresh ears in the morning - and then try to dial in something similar. Take a 5 minute pause, and then see if your take blends better with the backing.

Thanks Kris. Yeah, nobody wants me to 'print' fx I do have a pretty big and medium long delay on the slide part - ? The wah-wah part I want bone dry as a reaction to the processed backing track. I would also place it off to one side in the stereo field. Maybe a little room reverb would be cool. Gab, can you add a touch of reverb to the wah part?
*I downloaded mp3s from my forum post and I do hear my printed effects. Is there a chance/reason that what you guys are getting is completely dry?

I'll let this one open at least another week to see if we have more takes!

Yes, it does have delay.
We should probably all skip reverb, and then Gab would add the same reverb on all takes. However many people want to choose their own reverb as part of their tone.

I don't really think it's a necessity though - we are not trying to hide the fact that we are lots of different guitar players recording over this track. We are certainly not in the same room in these times of social distancing!

not trying to hide anything to be sure. Just thought I'd try to put a video version together like I did last time. I could use a performance video probably just as easily if it's a string out type of edit, one player after another.

I've played this one during the end of year celebration at high school !
Posted by: Todd Simpson Jul 21 2020, 04:33 PM
Impressive! It's a challenging piece to be sure. It's also a vey fun piece which is probably why there are so many video versions of it on youtube! I just happened to notice when I was playing the backing track that the lick from Trilogy fit right in. so BAM! Instant Yngwie Homage i'm using overloud THU for tone on this one and my neck pickup just lick Yngwie would do. I shared the THU patch just in case anyone else wants to try it I was going to use an amp, but THU just sounded so much better.
P.S. I pulled all the FX except distortion off of my final track so you could have flexibility in the mix of what fx you wanted to put on it. I was using some delay/reverb/etc. but I'll leave it to you for the final mix
Todd

Thanks much! OVERLOUD THU is the secret sauce to killer tone timho. Also, all of the parameters can be changed at any time during mixdown! That's the best part IMHO. So flexible. I built it just for this collab. Here is a screen capture. It's like a laboratory of tone. This one patch is a bit insane. But it's what the backing called for Used an ORANGE tube head. The cool thing about THU is that it lets you put anything you ant anywhere you want. So I'm using 2 cabs, 4 mics etc

It might sound weird to most but I have never thought of creating my own music.
But I really enjoy playing along with other people's material; like for example Gabriel's tracks
So I guess I am a more of a session player hehe
As for the tone, it's a cheap LTD guitar -> Focusrite 2 -> preset from guitar rig 5
