About the only place I spend more time on than Space.com is GMC so whenever something cool shows up on here, I gotta show it. This is a particularly cool animation that shows in pretty good detail what it would like if planets collide.

I've seen that one, pretty spectacular!
Some say that happened to earth a long time ago, and that our moon is a large piece of debris of that collision.

And thanks for sharing that site! I'm definetly gonna check it out some more since space really fascinates me. My "backup" solution for education might be something along the lines of astronomy ^^

I'd love to be a physicist but I'm no good with math really, I can memorize equations and theories no problem, but actually doing them would kill me laugh.gif

There are mathematical formulas and equations that prove this is generally the outcome, It all depends on size, speed, size of opposing objects and all that. But they almost always fuse together in some way and form a single molten remnant (Unless its anti-particles, then there is no remains).

And yeah, its NASA data, Spitzer is a part of NASA.

I saw a show on the discovery channel one time that said objects as big as planet would appear to impact in slow motion since they are so big. Yet they are moving at many 1000's of mile per hour.

This video is not they one they showed but it is just like the speed they said it would appear being of that size.

I am a space nut too. But no data used here to figure, just looks very cool. smile.gif

Also here is a couple pics I took through my telescope. Taken by sticking my camera in to the eye piece not much to see but fun to do.
