Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

My first Level 4 lesson! It was by far the most enjoyable to play on my 7 string! Also I've bought a pair of headphones, which made the general acoustics far better for me! Hope you like it and I can't wait for your thoughts on this one!!

Hey George!

Now this was a quick one wink.gif

First of all I will answer your question from private message. You are experiencing fast part issues because you are using your forearm instead of wrist. You look like totally tensted at the fast section of this lesson. You need to rest your wrist on the bridge saddles. For palm muted part it's obvious but for "open one" not that much. You need to still touch the bridge saddles with your right palm, but move more to the right side so you touch only the saddles, not the strings. Additional thing is to use 5th string as a pick limiter. After each stroke my pick stops on the 5th string. I'm getting that punchy tone because of pushing the pick hard until it falls to another string. Fulyl rest right side of your right palm (you can rest your pinky on unused strings. It helps to mute them.

This lesson still needs polishing but it's almost done. Try to not move your hand or fingers at all...when there's a break. At some points I can hear open strings noise comming out. Timing is another thing. You stil hesitate at some spots and it affects the timing.

Overall you got the basics of this lesson and now it's time to polish it smile.gif

Darious gave some great feedback here per usual! No need for me to repeat everything he just said. I would like to turn your attention to around :49 seconds in on the video. Take a look at your hand/arm. You are a bit tense and you almost start picking from the elbow a bit. Picking, I"m always on about, ideally starts from the fingers and moves back toward the wrist. If it starts from the elbow and moves forward toward the hand, it's like painting with a brush on the end of a broomstick. It's tough to maintain precise control and it will wear out your arm quite quickly compared to going the other route of using the fingers and wrist.

Ideally, nearly all picking can be articulated from the thumb/first finger. At some points, you may need to use your wrist as well. It should stop about There. If you have to pull your hand away from the bridge area, you start to lose precision and you create lag between last strike and next strike. Even for big sounding parts, you can get the motion you need from a larger wrist motion.

I appreciate the aggressive style with which you attack the lesson for sure smile.gif I can tell you are getting in to it and that's the best thing about music IMHO. That connection you feel to the music when you are playing and feeling it. The bits that need polish here are small enough. You've got the connection part down! A few tweaks on technique and BAM!

it's a 6 from me on this one. Look forward to seeing more!

Todd

Cool George,

I can confirm the technical issues in the faster 00:41 part is also reflected in the musical impression: it sounds cool until you reach the section.

In addition to what Darius said - I would also say there is also a slight thumb joint/circular motion going on - on top of the wrist picking movement. I find this is the key to get precision in faster picking lines.

If you can fix this section it will be a great take. You get a 6 from me - keep up the great work!

/Kris

Hi George!

I can see that you've already received great feedback here.

The positive side here is that you are close to master your first level 4 lesson. I can notice those issues happening in the faster sections so I would isolate this parts in order to adjust you technique there and polish the riffs. Work at slower tempos over metronome and you'll see improvements soon.

Let's use the mentoring thread to monitor you progress.

Keep on rocking!!
