Pretty tough. The bigger and older they are, the tougher the meat is.

He was probably using braided line with a 200lb strength or so. Same type of line used for off-shore fishing.

Big Ole Flathead!! I've caught many 20+ Channel cats but we don't have flatheads up this far North. That was one hell of a fish. Glad to see the guy put him back. That would be fun as hell!

they can get huge. They are smart fish, and if they learn to survive, well they don't learn that by being quick to chomp on a hook. I think that catfish committed fish suicide, it just felt it had nothing more to live for.

Being said, I love catfish. Really inexpensive, I eat it about twice a week (I never eat any meat that every Moo'ed or Oink'ed. Catfish comes of the bone real easy, I put lemon juice and pepper on it, great.

Salmon is my second favorite. But I would not eat a catfish that big. Has to be full of Carcinogens for one thing to be that old. I would throw it back. Actually I have thrown back all fish I ever caught, feel sorry for them, they look at you you know, and, well, can't do it unless somebody else did my killing for me.
