Strange, my floyd rose on my Ibanez RG has an allen screw and it stays in place fine.

These two examples are totally different designs. As CD has said, it's just a screw. The answer is that unless you can coat the threading of the bar with something (NOT RECOMMENDED) there's really no good safe way to increase the friction.
The good news is that you can play just fine with it loose like that. Take a look at Shawn Lane: Shawn's bar is more like Fireballl's here, but he keeps it loose in its collar so that he can play with it barely caught in his right hand. There's some really amazing technique available if you get used to that. -------------------- ::jafomatic

I know I can play like this but I really prefered my tremolo bar when it was holding in place.... It is not easy to pick it up quick when the bar is entirely relying on gravity.

Try another bar, they are not that expensive. I would also recommend that you examine the screw part of the bar in detail - it might be that the bar could crack. Happened to me once. They need replacement from time to time. If you are frequent whammy user, think of a bar as an expendable gear piece.

Here's one tip : on the arm screw thread you could use a small piece of PTFE / Teflon used in plumbing applications .

Hi Crazy diamond,
I have had several strats and what works are Tremelo tension arm springs. My Malmsteen strat had one and it never moved. I also have two other strats because I play Hank Marvin and Shadows stuff and the trem arms are in use continually and never have any trouble with them. The whammy bar on my Ibanez GRG170DX has always been hanging.Never actually knew that it was supposed to be holding in place
