Hi to everybody reading this post.

I recently went to city near home and found a great blues bar which reminded me that somewhere in the back of my wardrobe i had an old Fender Strat. Great guitar if somewhat dusty but a trip to my local music shop, a set up and new strings sorted me right out!

I had no ability when i bought this guitar and have little now but every time i see any form of live music i want to play. And i really am enjoying it.

My problem i guess is very common. Although i practice for an hour or two a day, for fun and to challenge myself, i feel as though i have hit a wall.

It seems that maybe i want to run before i can walk (don't we all!) and i would like to challenge myself by learning songs that i actually like.

I have just invested in a subscription to this site which looks great and will undoubtedly help my playing in all musical forms but it seems that a particular song i would like to learn is unavailable in any form of tab, be it standard or guitar pro form.

I have worked out most of the lead work which seems to be very much a variation around the main intro lick but there is some really great sounding rhythm guitar that i cannot get quite right and it appears to be so simple!!!!!!

The song is 'Dimples' played by John Lee Hooker and Los Lobos and i just can't seem to get it right. I hope this isn't below your collective intellect and ability and i would be very grateful.

It appears on the 'John Lee Hooker and Friends' album. 'Boogie Chillun' with Eric Clapton would be good too if you have any spare time.....

Can't offer anything in return except for gratitude...

Hi, I don't know if this will help you any but...

http://ultimate-guitar.com/search.php?s=Dimples&w=songs

Maybe it has something you are looking for. I am shocked at the little selection that www.ultimate-guitar.com has for this song... it usually has everything tab related for a song(bass, guitar, chords, etc..)

Hope this helps though. If not, sorry I couldn't be of more assistance!

Thanks for the instant reply but i've trawled all of the main tab sites to no avail. Its this particular version i'm interested in because it just sounds a really great version of his original. The guy from Los Lobos is chucking down some really quick rhythm (for the song) with a few trills and it has just grabbed me and i need to know what it is!!!

You could get "the amazing slow downer", a program that slows music down without affecting the pitch. That way it would be easier to follow.
I don't have it myself but ran a demo (that was limited to only work for the first part of a mp3 file) and the sound quality was fantastic.

Forgive my stupidity - just searched via AOL and got countless european sites without any reference to music in any shape or form. Who produces this software and what does it do exactly?

I completely appreciate the suggestions regarding software but i would like to keep my education as simple as possible. If i can use Transcribe on a regular basis for any mp3 download for tablature etc. then great but otherwise please ignore my earlier reply. It does seem i can only access it via a 'crack' site with a fee via a xxx hardcore site for the payment. Sound a bit dodgy?!! Is this what you mean by deep root? HaHa

Thanks anyway but still looking for help - any suggestions to the chord patterns and positioning would be nice.

Hi Blurred,
Transcribe is, as DeepRoots says, particularly good at slowing down/half speeding recordings. It's great for learning actual licks as it lets you slow and repeat stuff as many times as you want BUT when it slows it down it doesn't change the pitch.

To avoid all the garbage on the web it's available from here... It's shareware so will cost about 25 UK Sterling for a license but you can evaluate a copy for I think 2 weeks.

Cheers,
Tony

Tony and DeepRoot, Thank you very much.

I can't use it for the song i want to but i can use it for other stuff i like. It won't allow my mp3 files (from apple and itunes etc.) to be used because of copyright laws. Understandable i know. If anybody knows the song and can help then let me know or i'll just have to go out and buy the CD and use Transcribe. i didn't really want 2 copies thats all. Can't believe all this technology is available though - Good Stuff!

I don't think it exists for this particular version. In fact, as the original response to my request states, there is very little in the way of tablature regarding this song. I know the original. It is a very small and deceptively simple part of this version i am after. I can't even tell you if it is in standard or open tuning. It is driving me nuts!!HaHa.

I like this site already and your willingless to help without the fragging.....

Keep it coming.

If it isn't tabbed Blurred then chances are you will have to try to transcribe it yourself. (And to be honest even if it's tabbed a lot of tabs are not that accurate sad.gif ).

If the recording is copy protected then there is a cd riff tracker by (I think) Tascam that will still slow down a cd to half speed without your having to try to rip to an mp3/wave so it doesn't encroach on copyrite/DRM. From there it's the tried and trusted method of transcribing by ear I'm afraid. The upside of this though is that you really do get to learn the track inside and out cool.gif .

Cheers,
Tony

also there are a few custom transcription services on the web who might be able to do it for you but I can't vouch for their quality.
