Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Hi Nico!

Great job here! I can say that you are playing all these rhythm figures clean and tight. I don't hear issues to fix here. I just think that the right hand up and down movement could be a bit more natural than that. It looks forced while it should be something totally relaxed and natural.

Other than that, this is great! It's a 9.

Keep on the good job!!

NICE!!! This is very well done. You are showing good technique here and very solid timing. You don't rush or lag the piece which is something that is very easy to fall victim to. You keep your timing solid through the entire performance. It almost looks like you are keeping time by bouncing your pick hand? That's fine of course, but maybe try to tap your food or bang your head instead, just to keep time with something other than the pick hand. I did notice your picking hand is just a pinch more tight/tense that perhaps it should be. It doesn't impact your playing here, but at higher levels of complexity, keeping it too stiff can get in the way of your playing. Try to see if you can articulate the pick using the thumb and first finger. This allows you to plant your palm on the bridge for a solid mute at all times. Especially for slower bits like this, the thumb/first finger is more than enough to keep up with the picking duties. It's a very very very hard thing to master so give yourself some time. : ) You nailed this one. Solid 9 from me!!!

Todd

I agree with what's been said here -

You perform this very well - but you could use this opportunity to also practice loosening your picking wrist.

It should be mentioned that Stephane also has a pretty stiff wrist when picking - so we are not saying it can't be done this way. However if you are striving for a technique that will allow maximum flexibility, loosening your wrist is the way to go. It will allow for any picking technique (even extreme speeds).

Keep up the killer practicing - you get a 9 from me!

Hey there!

Overall impression of your take is positive. Even if your tone is not as warm as original lesson's, you still managed to get close with your hand dynamics. It is essential for the style of playing Stephane represents. I'm also happy to see your regular, alternate hand motion. That is really the key to many thigns in the future - not only the ones you master in this lesson. It is critical for descent timing.

I think you have nothing to feel bad about in this take. Things we could complain a little are some notes where you where not condifent and used softer stroke which ended with volume decreasement for particular notes.

Second important and difficult skill is to be able to mute unwanted strings even with such a "movie" right hand. You can still keep a soft part of your palm in a very soft contact with the low strings. This will help to avoid the open strings ringing. Here we can notice it at a few spots. It would most probably become a real issue when distortion is involved.
