Odd Grooves, Lesson By Muris Varajic |
|
Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.
The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Hi Jim! Your take is very good. You played each lick with precision and feeling. However, when I compare your take with the great Muris take, I notice that there is still room to improvements. Here are 3 differences that I note:
- Timing: Your timing is very good, but there are still VERY little details that can be improved. Mostly when you play ascending sweep arpeggios. Muris gets a more accentuated sound and also a more precise timing. If you analize his playing, he "divides" the sweep, he doesn't play it as an only down motion, he picks each note. Pay attention to his right hand and you will notice what I mean. This divided sweep makes the note sound more accentuated. In your take, the ascending sweeps sound a bit before the beat, and this can be the reason. - Dynamics: You try to give dynamics to your phrases but comparing with Muris take, you still can make it sound better. Sometimes the difference in intensity in your phrases is to big and some notes are close to disappear. Once again, compare both takes and you will notice what I mean. - Tone: Work a bit on the EQ of your take and consider adding that delay that is being used in the original take to give the overall sound a cooler ambiance. This is not a fundamental thing but it's a cool detail to make it sounds cooler. That's all! This take is close to 10, I will put a 9, just because I would really like to see a new take from you with these details considered. Keep on rocking! -------------------- My lessons
