Got myself these 2 gadgets today:

A Roland GI-20 midi interface and a GK-3 pickup!
Been playing with it for some hours and it's a seriously fun toy smile.gif It's odd how entertaining it can be to play piano, strings, flutes, bagpipes and whatnot on the guitar biggrin.gif

I'll get a review up as soon as i figure out what all the buttons do and experiment some more smile.gif

AFAIK it turns your guitar into a synth. And you can make it sound like a piano, string quartet, human voices, everything! smile.gif

Start by playing something - a bend, a riff, a scale, a song - very slowly; if you make a mistake, start over; do this over and over, until you can play it flawlessly - and I do mean flawlessly - many times in a row. Next, gradually increase the tempo. Eventually you'll be flailing like a madman.

Excellent - could be just the thing for laying down quick midi lines - easier than a keyboard perhaps smile.gif

Seems like it can - I did a little research. I think the GI-20 is just a midi module, and the pickup talks midi to it, so in theory you could record the midi directly and play it back thorough a VSTi - which would be cool for laying down bass lines and such!

Is that right Trond?

Thats 100% correct. It works just like any other midi interface. You just select a Vst/vsti in your DAW, then assign the correct midi-interface to it and your set to record and play.

To conect the gr20 to the pc, use the midi outut to the midi input of the soundcard, there is a little latency form......the midi message, and the ram management from the daw/pc/vsti.
