In this Quick Licks, we start with an open string and then play an arpeggio. You can pick this any way you like. Whatever works for your picking hand. This one does have a big stretch for the pinky, but it should be a familiar shape by now as we have used it in the past. We are leveraging that shape here. If the shape is new to new, it should be simple enough as it's only about half of a full arpeggio.

Muting on this one was hard for me.
I also had to think about my accuracy with the stretch of my pinky (4th) finger for the high note. Easy to undershoot if I wasn't focused.
Once again I've noticed that since doing these Todd hammer-on licks, my left hand is not getting fatigued anymore. Practice works!
I made a little classical style progression with the lick. Gm to Cm back to Gm to Dm to Gm. I lower the top note of the Cm arpeggio one fret each time. The Dm is a different shape.

For better or for worse, I have to make 'music' out of anything I practice. If I don't, it doesn't really absorb into my playing.

Now that was just AWESOME!! I like how it sounds further up like you played in the vid. I'm going to have to make a quick licks with that mod! It sounds very cool. I like your musicality quite a bit and the way you change the pinky note when you are playing further up is very cool. It started life as a drill and ended up as an etude! Thanks much for this killer take. Needless to say you just.

Take 1 Sarge with my mod showing at the end. I had this done when I first got this Strat as I too had the same problem as Ken but for some reason I don't feel the need or the desire to get it done on my SRV Strat.

I tried to make something musical out of it but it didn't amount to much.

You are prepped for the next one for sure. It's really an extension of this one. 113 is this lick with string traverse to a lower string. It feels tricky at first to make the switch, but I think you can handle no problem!!!

Thats a very real thing! Sometimes it's best to let the brain work on something without playing it for a few days. Your subconcious mind will keep working on the problem, even when you dream. Then you pick up the guitar and bam, it starts happening! I've made use of this technique many times. In this lesson in particular. When I first wrote it, I stumbled over it for two days in a row. Then I didn't play it for a week. Then It came time to record it and BAM it just worked

Awesome!!! No only do you play the lick, you do a KEN thing and mod it with something extra cool! This is an open string lick with an arpeggio. I've not seen these types of licks on the interwebs. If they are there I just have not seen them. If you have seen them please share a vid! I thought that adding an open string would give a free note and make the arp sound like more notes than it actually is. But, if one does not mute well, it becomes a noise machine.
