Well I sold my Gibson Les Paul Standard to raise the money to get a new Gibson Les Paul Custom but in the end I snatched an old one for a great price. This is my new Gibson Les Paul Custom in Arctic White:







This one is 13 years old and was played a lot! It was rocked, beaten and heavily played but it sounds INCREDIBLE!
The hardware was changed to black one, there are active EMG pickups in it and Sperzel Locking Tuners (which is exactly how I would have modified a new one).

This guitar sounds better than ANYTHING I have ever heard or played. Warm, tight and heavy with a sustain that lasts for weeks! This baby was made by hand in Nashville and it aged for 13 years - It's incredible how good it sounds.

Yeah the quest for ultimate tone is definitely over. It's very unlikey to find something that sounds better than a LPC

Black on white is quite possibly my favorite combination So how do the X's compare to the regular 81/85?

The X series sound the same, they just react better to your picking and sound more open - like a passive pickup would do.
They haven't lost their output or their tightness though!

Just a KILLER looking axe. And all tweaked for ripping! How cool is that. I'm a big fan of the 81/85 set, in a les paul body the sustain is just ungodly!

Maybe I have to put the EMG to my LP to, what EMG pick up are this?

When I got this one it had a regular EMG 81 in the bridge and an EMG 85 in the neck (the classical EMG setup for thight riffing and smooth soloing). I replaced them with the new X versions of the same pickups. Those feature a diffrent built in preamp that makes the pickups more dynamic and versatile without loosing the typical EMG tone!

there is definitely something about older Les Paul's, mine is sixteen years old and sounds superb.

Oh my god guys you are going to hate me but I just snatched an Ibanez J custom 7 String for an incredible price with the rest of the money I saved to get a new Les Paul Custom^^
Two Custom shop guitars in one week, both for great prices - I am so lucky (and dead broke by now )

Not as long as the front is looking good! I will be gigging with this guitar so i don't bother with how the backside looks but the white Nitro laquer will start to change color (it already does if you look close at the pics) and once they become to noticable I might get the guitar refinished...
