Hey everyone! My name is Meg and I'm 17. I've been playing the electric guitar for about 9 months now.
I joined GMC after 5-ish months of teaching myself and the lessons really helped me get a lot more creative
with creating music and also helped me explore new techniques!!!
Um let's see I like to play Rock n Roll (any Rock music, really!), and Blues, but I like playing almost any style (even metal) if it's got a nice feel.
To start off, I bought an Epiphone Les Paul Special II and a Line 6 15w spider amp---which is great start gear!! (totally recommended for starters)
As a female guitarist, I find it hard to find other girls with the same interest in being in a band. There IS one girl band that I know of in my area but they're an all out gothic-metal-band (not my type). And the guys that I know don't really respect me in a musician-kinda way, a couple of them talk about girls being on the bass guitar, etc - which I think is real retarded. So basically it's very hard getting into a band (the ones I know if are either not-serious or already full) and forming one as a beginner-intermediate isn't going to well! (I have a lil duo-band thing going-like the White Stripes-with a good friend of mine, she plays the drums-kinda..but she doesn't practice and is not dedicated to making some real music to be proud of. It's just too frustrating to keep going so I stopped trying to work on the band music.)
I wanna know if anyone else here has the same struggles I do in this band situation..especially if you're a female guitarist!
GMC rocks!
Peace~
Meg
Hi there! Cool to have here a female guitar player
I hope you learn a lot from GMC
Regarding the topic: I think that if you demonstrate that you can play as good as any guy they will respect you. Some narrowminded guys think that girls can't play and there are some good female players like Jeniffer Batten or Lori Lindstruth outthere.
Welcome to GMC Meg:)
Enjoy the site, don't worry it won't be long before you're showing the guys what's what.
Welcome to GMC Meg
Welcome to GMC
Welcome to GMC, Meg =)
Welcome Meg Enjoy the site....
Welcome to GMC Meg! Nice to have you here!
Welcome! You'll enjoy the site for sure!
Welcome aboard Meg, you came to the right place
regarding your topic, it is hard for people to get affirmation in the beginning of course, specially girls, but don't be frustrated about it, just push on, and be persistent. Practice, practice, play, play, sing, sing, and one day (when you least expect it, like all good things in life) opportunity will come up. Who knows maybe you become a talented solo artist, or a guitar player in a successful band, but one thing is for sure - you will never accomplish that unless you work hard. So don't worry, take your time, go step by step and keep rockin. If you have any questions feel free to ask them on forums and we will try to help as much as we can. Cheers.
Welcome to GMC Meg
Welcome to GMC Meg
Hey welcome to GMC Meg !!
Regarding band situation , I can imagine being hard to find a female band (which is a very cool thing), so I would suggest looking for possible band members around you (using community web sites and similar) so you may end up making your own in the end...Other things they say about female guitar players is just stupid (especially thing about bass ) ...
see ya round Meg!
It's great to have you Meg,
I wish you all luck in finding a bend
