Not as much time as I need!

I am the lead guitarist and front-man (singer) for my band, so I spend a Lot of very valuable practice time just memorizing lyrics and learning to play and sing them at the same time. It's one thing to be able to sing a song along with an album - try singing the whole thing purely by memory! That's what's required to actually know a song, I'm learning. When I'm driving (I have an hour commute), I'll have my iPod on so I can go over my set-list trying to memorize / learn the nuances of each song in our 25 song set-list.

After work, I hang out with the family (I'm married w/kids) til about 9:30 or 10:00 when everyone goes to sleep. Then I'll stay up til about 2:00 a.m. practicing the songs I need to learn. I spend the last hour of that time doing speed drills, and trying to pound out solos that I'm learning by looping them, and playing them over. I also try to spend at least 1/2 hour of that time just jamming to a backing track - that's generally my warm up-time.

So on average, about 4 hours a day with a guitar, and probably an hour a day learning the song itself from memory. I don't take days off :/

Well, there are about 2-3 rehearsals with both bands each week -> so 6 rehearsals all in all let's say although it's not always like that. 3-4 hrs at each rehearsal makes about 20 hrs a week for both bands together smile.gif we're sharing the same manager, so at least I know we won't have trouble with superposed gigs laugh.gif

wou man! that's why I can't have 2 bands... I do 3 rehearsals per week of 3 hours with Cirse and it's a lot for me. Maybe it's because we already know how to make the songs sound and just add little changes, details, intros and covers.

Well, I am not alone there so we're dividing the work among ourselves in order to manage smile.gif
