Hi Vulpine!! Welcome to your http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=43110&st=20 thread!!

Could you please tell me a bit about you, your musical tastes, influences, strengths and weaknesses? I would need some videos of you playing rhythm and solo guitar, so please post your best material here. If you have some music or ideas of your own, also post them here. Also let me know how you think that I can help you and what are your expectations for our job. You can check the other Army's thread to discover the different modalities of this project.

info about my self - HI My real Name is Kevin Ive been playing Guitar for about 2years 3months im 22 now , i play alot of video games when i have the time and I really have a passion for music, wasnt until later after I had picked up a guitar that I Discovered my dad played the piano and my grandfather played the guitar and I thought that was completely coincidence that I picked it up because up until i was 16-17ish a thought of playing a guitar never crossed my mind until I started playing guitar hero lol (sounds silly I know) long story short I heard the song ""Soothsayer" by Buckethead and I was like wow , what if i could play that song for real

" Musical taste" I listen to alot of instrumental rock, blues, post rock, Ambient music .

"Influences" - to sum it up Buckethead and Joe Satriani (Big big fan of BUCKETHEAD) i do like other artist's such as andy james andy timmons and guthrie govan but the biggest influences i always go back to buckethead who's my biggest and joe satriani(when he plays lydian). So between BH and JS I would like to develop my own music personallity with elements of both artist's (Buckethead - nottingham lace) and (Joe Satriani - Time ) lol

my strengths - I've been complimented alot on my rhythm I think I might have good rhythm, and I feel at my point in playing I can play or achieve something within my reach of course with practice i feel i can play almost anything . of course there are songs that are completely beyond me like shredding (which I would like to learn more of )

My weakness
- the ability to play clean when im playing with distortion or alot of gain, atm I rely on a mixture of a hair bow on my guitar a, turning my volume knob on the guitar down alittle and raising the noise gate on my amp. would love to get better at playing clean.

I have a youtube channel "markway16" here are some links
rock metal
I link a video of my playing

Improvising rock/solo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nL9f7Pm6BVY&feature=g-upl

Improvising blues solo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_hD2Pa4SGw&feature=autoplay&list=ULTJ3euRjFUhI&playnext=3

this video i play alittle rhythm n lead

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJ3euRjFUhI&feature=autoplay&list=ULOPnbKHVMQkc&playnext=1

and this last link tryng to play in the style of Ambient buckethead

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_bdUI92Qcc&feature=channel&list=UL

Goals I've been working on improvisation would like to get better at it Technique, phrasing, shredding and would like learn more about buckethead style

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi May 26 2012, 08:30 PM

Hi mate! Thanks for this complete post about you! smile.gif

I also like Buckethead a lot so I've been listening a lot to his music. I love his shreddy style but I mostly enjoy his weird effect tunes and his ambient albums. Regarding his Shred playing, we should go for Paul Gilbert stuff since he has been his teacher and also a big influence for him. The most ambient stuff comes more from his soul and the things that will help you to understand it will be to learn and analyse the chord progressions, melodies and scales that he uses.

Please check my http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=42832e, starting with the Warming up and Endurance exercises to create together a good diary routine to start training the different techniques. We should also choose any musical lesson to learn and then record for the REC program, do you have any in mind?

Finally check out my new collab called "http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=44458"... would you like to join?

Hi man! Check out these exercises in the style of Gilbert, and also Buckethead.

http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=42831

Regarding following chords.... have you seen the video Melodic control by Marty Friedman?
It's very important to learn the triads and the arpeggios in the whole fret-board to be able to follow the chords when you are soloing. Do you have experience with this?

atm I have triads and there inversions written down and is something I do need to put some time in getting more comfortable with them same with arpeggios I can play major and minor arpeggios on the 5th string (the basic arpeggio shape) Ive been doing some arpeggio practice but again thats something i need to work on more . now do I know all the triads and arpeggios in the whole fret board without looking at practice sheet ? No I dont yet .and I havent seen the melodic control vid by marty but would love to check it out if theres a link somewhere

thanx for the exercises ill get started on them right away

Nice tune mate. I think that you should work a bit more on the phrases to make the melodies more defined and memorable. Have you work on those Friedman's concepts?? What knowledge do you have about scales, arpeggios, triads?

Some technique work... Alternate Picking exercises and maybe Sweep Picking could also add more to your playing if you want to add more shred licks.

Have you checked my Intensive Technique Course?

Posted by: Vulpine Oct 27 2012, 03:40 AM

Hey Gabrielle ,

Scales - I know major/minor, the modes, blues scale , alil harmonic n phrygian dominant scale (still working on those two)
but the scale I've really favored is the natural minor scale which is the scale I'd love to improve my shred technique with

Arpegios - I know the 5 string root major, minor n diminished arppegios as well as the 6 string root major n minor arpegios

my sweep picking def needs work I can arpegiate but not as fast that u could call it sweep picking , if you want I could record myself to show you

and the intensive technique course I will start working on first thing in the morning

oh yea I forgot

Triads - Ive actually been working on that alot the past month or two lately and I think im starting to get the hang of it , but I mostly kno the major/minor/diminished open voiced triads

You have a good background. Are you now working on some GMC lessons? Could you start with the ITC? Check out the Warming up, and the alternate picking lessons.

its up

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Oct 30 2012, 08:17 PM

Ok mate, this is your take:

Those hands want to go fast! I think that you will be able to shred your fretboard soon if you do some hard work every day. The two things to pay attention here are: hands sync and muting other string for avoiding unwanted noises.
I think that you have to isolate each of this patterns and practice them slowly with metronome. It doesn't help to practice faster than you can, you have to be slightly over the tempo that you feel comfortable and do lots of repetitions.
Check out the patterns from my Intensive Technique Couse and incorporate them into your diary practice and let's start working on this lesson:

Hey Gabrielle,
was practicing n lately I've started to notice whenever I bend my right hand down I would see a small knot on the back of my wrist, not sure if its from the hours of practicing each day over the past week or maybe work related but I think I may have to cut up my practice routine like taking more breaks inbetween n doing stretch exercises before playing (which is something i should have done more often)

not sure if this wrist thing is gangolion cyst related but hopefully it will go away if im not straining my wrist as much or may have it checked out

anyway im on class 8 n about halfway in "Alternate picking Thirds" video am glad you showed me that lesson its fun to work on and it sounds pretty cool reminds me of something I would hear Paul Gilbert play ever now n then which reminds me to mention that I've still been working on the Modal Madness is coming along abit ,its starting to feel more comfortable and I feel im starting to play it with better accuracy n more smoothe although swapping my 10 gauge strings for 9 gauge strings would help abit aswell biggrin.gif

Signing out for the Night smile.gif (tho it'll prolly be morning by the time u read this)

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Nov 5 2012, 05:24 PM

Hi Vulpine, it's great to see you working hard. Regarding that knot, it would be great if you can go to the doctor to check it. It-s very important to take care of our hands and muscles because we depend on them to play guitar... if you feel any kind of hurt, you must stop practicing. Do you do some warming up and stretches before starting a practice session?

I've learned some stretch n warm up exercises , but some days i tend to just get right on the guitar with out warming up, what im currently tryng to train myself to do is to warm up n stretch before I practice every day or whenever I pick up the guitar n thanks for the advice my right hand doesnt hurt or anything but I will have it checked out

The best way to fix it, is practicing the lesson over the orignal one to be sure that you are playing it at the same tempo.

ah ok. well... my trick is simple... I use the palm of my right hand to mute the lower strings, and sometimes my right hand little finger to mute the higher strings if it's necessary. However it's difficult to be precise with the palm the picking hand, so the trick is to mute the closer strings with my left hand index finger.... I mute the lower adjacent (closer) string with the tip of this finger and also the higher strings with the rest of the finger used as a bar... let me know if it's clear!

Posted by: Vulpine Nov 18 2012, 07:45 PM

thanks yes im aware of the finger of the left hand muting the adjacent lower string and the higher strings with the rest of the finger like a barr I i need to work on this a bit I think and also ur technique with your right hand I might need to try muting the higher strings with my little finger

Hi mate, this idea sound very nice. I love it! The secret here is to analyse song structures, starting with something simple. Maybe analysing some Satrini's rock songs.. define parts (intro, verse, chorus, verse 2, chorus 2, solo) and try to build your songs using that type of structures. This will clarify what is lacking in your compositions and how to order the parts. On the other hand, Buckethead uses to create song that seems to be a leit motiv followed by a long jam.. you could try to analyse his structure concepts but it will be more difficult to follow in your own songs because it seems to be free. Once you have the structures analysed, check out how the connect the chord progressions, and finally the rhythms. Song analysis and practice are the keys to improve your compositions.

Hi mate! I just give you some comments again at your song's thread. Every lesson that can be found at this site, exactly any few case, involves timing. You could choose any rhythm lesson that you like and master it and combine it with this one that is cool to understand the different figures:

Hi mate! What I want to do in cubase is to put the first riffs at tempo to show you how it should sound but you haven't post the guitars with the rhythms. I would need that channel.. If it's possible send me all the tracks that you used in the song and I will fix the first measures. Does is make sense?

its alright Gabrielle I'm going to redo the rhythm part anyway in hopes of making it better in time = )

Ok! That's where I find the problem. The rhythm guitar wasn't on time and that makes so difficult to create melodies over it at tempo.

Have you been working on this lesson? Do you have any video or audio?
