As I'm struggling to play an assignement from Gabriel for weeks now, I just wanted to relax and to propose you a lesson I've played a million times over the last years. Still no perfect, but better than a couple of years ago. I've added a "free-style" take after the official one as it is quite a short lesson. I've tried to add some variations for Ben :-)

Hey there!

Lessons like those seems to ask for some additional fun over the backing track. Your approach is no surprise to me Blues is a genre where we can have a lot of fun with dynamics and articulation, while using quite simple harmonic content.

Unfortunately those dynamics and articulation are the biggest and the hardest task of playing blues. We can say it's a kind of masterclass to workout your skills on both fields. This also means that even if melody seems to be simple, the lesson iteslf is much harder to get high grade.

Aside from a few notes that haven't been played clean (I'm sure you know exactly which ones), you need to widen your range of picking strenght. At this moments most of notes are being played with soft to medium range and that's why it lacks some of that characteristic blues bite. I belive you'll work this out with gabirel but you need to be patient.

Hi mate,

I think that Darius comments are on spot. This is not a bad take but it's lacking what makes blues so enjoyable: feeling, dynamics, tasty tone.

I think that it's a great idea to try to get the most from this lesson and try to work on 1 concept at a time. It would have a killer impact in your overall playing.

The licks need extra focus and attention so I feel that it would be better to work on 1 at a time trying to make it sound better regarding each element included: vibrato, bending, picking intensities, groove.

And besides this, work a bit more on your tone. It's a bit "dead" by now, it needs more presence, more mids, more life.

Hi there. You've got the fundamentals of this lesson down fine. You just need to work on improving the performance of your picking hand. A the moment it seems a bit 'lazy' and it also has a very soft attack.

You do manage to get some nice articulations though, with some pinch harmonics.

But overall, your picking needs some work so I would suggest some simple lessons from the GMC archive to help unlock the picking motions for you!
