GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Open Tunings

Posted by: Mith Jun 13 2014, 03:17 AM

I have an accoustic guitar that never gets used since I prefure my Washburn 6 and 12 string more. So was thinking of setting it up in some really unique open tuning so it can get a bit of new life.

Be nice for it to have a bit of use in my collection but at the moment it just feels like its taking up space (which is limited until I move and buy another guitar rack)

That sounds very good Myth. Open tunings are great to explore with uncommon chords and possibilities. Have you seen my new lesson based on Mumford & sons style?

I use open D tuning on it.

DADGAD is my go to alt tuning

I recently experimented with Mark Tremonti's DADADD or the C version - CGCGCC - the song called 'Open your eyes' is played with it and it rocks!

+1!!
Open G and D are fun to play with too. I also like to tune to DADGBD as well, some really nice open chord sounds with it!!

I didn't know this! Interesting. That song sounds killer, both the clean and distorted sections.

It's one of my favorite tunes from them and I will make a playthrough with the new PRS biggrin.gif The tuning is pretty weird in respect to lead playing, because I need to understand the interval re-orientation.

I first heard AB thanks to the videoclip of that song. It's weird what I will say but I discovered them on tv. It's maybe the last band that I discovered on TV, the other one was Muse. Nowadays I just discover bands on internet.
