I don't know much about amps. Is an 8 year old amp going sound good? I havent really been playing long so I don't need anything to big, or crazy, just something to play/practice. but the amp i have now is really underpowered i feel like.

I'm not sure of the specs on the amp I have now, cuz I'm at work.

but I'll post them later tonight

Really don't know much about amps myself, but sounds good to me... Tho, if you only need a practice amp, this is propably not the way to go, even tho it isn't that expensive, maybe you wan't something smaller... I don't know, wait for someone more experienced to give u hints

yeah all I know is that I get frustrated when trying to play some of these lessons here because i feel that I'm not getting a good sound and it's quite discouraging, because it doesnt sound like the lesson.

Yeah, I know what you mean, I looked for a perfect sound ( for me anyways ) for a long time, but now that I bought PX5D, I have found it Maybe u should think of getting something similiar, or just buy a tube amp or some effects

I actually have a pocket POD, and that did open some doors for me, but I'm still not getting the sound I want. And I have always attributed it to having a weak amp. perhaps another contributing factor, is that I don't get to play loudly very often, because I live with my parents (I'm still attending college, and am home for the summer) But even when i do get to play loudly it still doesnt sound the way I want it to.

but to stay on subject, I still just wanted to know if this was a good buy or not

165W, I seriously doubt that. 60W for petes sake!!!

No matter if the tubes are worn out $150 is nothing to think twice about, it's no money for a full tuber even if this model isn't that well known, at least not to my knowledge.
But be aware that spite the dude says it's 165W and good enough for a concert hall, 60W becomes very loud. Very loud!

So I'd expect great cleans and a good enough lead channel for blues or american rock.

Right, this is suspicious though, might be stolen or something not right. Nobody sells a powerful (60w is powerful) Fender tube amp for $150. Except this guy.

edit: and how many people here, who don't know the Amp power of an Amp they have owned for 8 years? Or think that you could buy 165 tube watts for $600 even 8 years ago? Or that Fender ever made such an animal? Right. Bet it is stolen.

Yeah, that's a good reflection I didn't think of. I just though - rich dude who wants to get rid of his stuff quick.
I often set my price a bit too low just to close the deal quick. Not because I'm rich but I just don't have the time or energy to talk to dozens of ppl before I get the cash. I rather talk with one, get less cash but instantly.

I know what you are saying. So it is possible. Except he could get rid of it just as fast at twice the price. Either he is either ignorant on the amp, or being deceptive. In general when things are too good to be true........

Rich guys in my experience, did not get rich due to their very generous natures, for the most part.

I think fkalich may be right in being sceptical here. To the best of my knowledge Fender stopped building the Super 60 in the very early 1990s - about 92/93. So even if bought in 2000 the amp would be at least 16 years old - and 8 when the guy bought it. That and getting the 60 vs 165W bit wrong .

A 16 year old amp will need at the very least new valves if the guy hasn't ever done it. Seems unlikely given that he doesn't know the wattage of his amp. EDIT - see he says the tubes are orignal - 16 year old tubes WILL need replacing and I don't believe that they still sound great .

Anyway - if it is genuine - the Super 60 was a good/great valve amp, great for American voiced rock/blues guitar. Price wise though you can find used 16 year old Super 60s for around 300-500 USDs that have been well looked after. So factor in the cost of tubes and this isn't a bargain imho - just the same price as others.

Man... if it works, and looks good, it's a STEAL literally! 60W of tube power is VERY loud.

thank you all very much for your input.... but I went to call this guy this morning....

AND HE ALREADY SOLD IT!

it was on the exchange for less than 8 hours he said, before someone called him....

so it looks like I'm still in the hunt for a new amp, but I'm not that upset, from what I've heard from you guys it seems like this might not have been a good buy. cuz I had no idea this amp was as powerful as you guys are telling me. (all i wanted to do with it was practice haha)

60W of tube power is too loud for home practice. I would say a 15Watter is good for home, and that can be loud as well. For example compared to 15W, 50W is almost twice as loud.

i got a 35W And i can barely play at home, its way too loud. It sux, im getting a 15W Line 6! <3

The problem with these large tube amps for practice is they really never sound as good as they might cranked up the full. I learnt that the hard way after shelling out alot of cash

Worse still, my tone was awful, and nothing like the GMC instructors ! In the end I sold my Vox and my pricey pedals and bought a POD X3 and its ideal for me personally!
